The Nova Scotia fishing fleet are absolutely horrible at helping out other boats in their vicinity. They don’t turn on their AIS, they don’t answer hails on VHF, they don’t respond to verbal hails. Unbelievably dangerous.

Enjoyable videos. I also occasionally sail solo. I use my iPad as navigation with TZiBoat, and with an EmTrak black box AIS engine which shows on the iPad. Waterproof case for the iPad and I can set it in the companionway, at the nav table, or if I am really nervous, in my hand with a securing strap.😁 Surprized that you have to go down below to see the AIS. Of course, there‘s a huge difference between coastal pilotage and offshore navigation.

We were sailing last week in fog and there was nothing on radar or AIS and 150ft off the bow appears a 40ft lobster boat. He had no interest in his safety, apparently his fishing area is more important. The scary thing is that there were plenty of boats aroound us doinf 20-30 knots in the dense fog, they would have smoked this guy.
