  I had to give up on this video. You are interrupting videos constantly, so that you can sit in judgement because only you are perfect and only you know the best way. Except you've never said a best way yet. And tbh I don't want to know. You're just a braggart who likes putting others down.

  Please accept this as constructive criticism.  Organize your presentation, if you are going to rely on other presentations then allow your viewers to view the presentations (don't keep interrupting because it is terribly confusing), take a prozac, or something.

  delivery captain here, 9 hawaii deliveries, 130k miles ..... I bring a long line and tie on the end of the boom, take it forward to the bow cleat, easy, and it works

  I didn't see a calm example of how to rig a proper one. But that's some huge 60 or 70 foot boat, the forces are enormous, prices are enormous, surely one could build into a boat hard points at physics-calculated best points specifically for preventers, just write another $5,000 or $10,000 check (5 or 10 or 20 'Boat Dollars', insignificant cost on such big boats). Change positions of lifeline stanchions if needed. Then keep it always rigged 24/7 with best type line already run to cockpit ready to clip onto proper boom point. For giant boats like this one even what the host proposes is lines at shallow angles. He's right about not rigging something that will make a sudden stop; maybe rig in the last couple of meters a sacrificial weaker line a foot or two shorter that will break taking up half the energy.  Just ideas.  I'm glad I sail a 20 foot boat.

  I watched this and I think I understand why and almost what to do, but at the end of the explanation you talk about the slow release of the boom to prevent a knock down by the full main held back by the preventer, I don't understand how you can get a slow release, how is that managed it almost as if your talking about some kind of slip line, how and what?

  I have the Dynema gadget along the boom with a 1m piece of bungy in the core for elasticity. I have one 16mm  preventer line permanently fitted on each side for easy, quick switching. It works well.

  As a newbie Skipper, I am more confused than before. I understood the principles but I feel less confident of doing it right now. Especially the part of letting the boom over slowly. What am I to do? Then there is winch, cleat, what else? I am unsure about the resources I am to use, how to calculate the stretch, etc. This feels like I have to call my math professor, every time I want to apply a preventer on a chartered boat.
