I have no patience, or attention span. This is the greatest game I’ve ever played in my 40 years, something about it, the replay, open ended, amazing puzzles and lore. God I love this game.

From what I remember, enemies do respawn, like the turtles, frogs in the swamp area, and more. And some will drop food.<br>And I think there is spots where you can technically fish, so you can gain some food from that as well.<br>There is a way to make a super powered team, with 3 farmers, and 1 alchemist. Basically the 3 farmers are the ratfolk, with the mutation perk (Can't remember the names fully), this will make it so when they level up they will gain a random attribute. The Alchemist I make lizardfolk with the poison immunity, have him/her carry all the alchemical ingredients, and just make more potions when can, keeping at least 1 of each ingredient.<br>Now there is a "boss" fight, which you are supposed to go around destroying nests that spawns mushrooms.<br>The thing is, these mushrooms drops food. So as long as you don't destroy all of the nests, you can farm the mushrooms. The kicker here is they mainly deal damage with Poison, which my Alchemist is immune against. And with the the farmers being able to just eat like crazy they will level up a lot.<br>And because they have the mutation and gain random attributes, they can get Resistances up to 100+%<br><br>It is however a VERY SLOW process, since like I think every 1 attribute is like 0.2% resistance, but Alchemist can also make potions that increase Resistance and Attributes permanently, so you need less potions with the Mutation perk. And with the Mirror set, you can make the Alchemist immune to all types of Magic as well. However this is if my memory is remembering everything correctly. And you have one artefact that makes it so who ever wears it, doesn't need to eat. So of course I put that on the Alchemist when I get it. Also the Alchemist can make Revival potions, so you don't need to worry about losing a party member permanently. Also Farmers don't level normally they need to eat to level. Though they DO level the quickest just need to remember not to eat all of the food since you still need to keep them fed.<br>---<br><br>Overall, I find the game enjoyable with many quirks to how to play, understanding what works for you is the biggest thing. And learning and remembering the magic can be tricky, but rewarding in my eyes.<br>There are people who knows every spell from memory, and knows how much mana each spell costs, which spell works the best against enemies and such. It can be quite amazing to watch how a difficult fight is turned to a cake walk. But as said what works for one, doesn't work for another. So we find what is easy for us.<br>Another thing to know is that each race has their own unique way of playing.<br>Example Minotaurs can collect if memory serves a total of 12 skulls around the game, these gives them passive buffs, extremely good for example a Barbarian Minotaur, as it just plays with how the Minotaurs are.<br>Humans have a perk that makes it so they level 20% quicker, which can be very, very, very good for example wizards.<br>But yeah, there is so many ways to mix and match, and it is sad we don't see much of that in games today.

I’d say this is almost the maximum you can push this genre when combining classic dungeon crawler design with modern graphics and a full 3D environment. In my opinion Grimrock was far ahead of its time, and honestly nothing in this particular style and production quality has really surpassed it in the last 10 years. Sure, it’s missing a few things like towns, shops, or a broader world layer, but as a dungeon crawler it’s still pretty much a benchmark. And the editor with the huge amount of custom levels the community created gave the game incredible longevity.

Grimrock was amazing and Grimrock 2 just turned it up to 11. Incredible game, I didn't even mind some of the harder puzzles and I hate blobber puzzles. As long as there's no dark zones and no minimap turners it's fine.<br>The variety in zones and classes/races pushed the game way above most of the other blobbers that were starting to slowly get revived by the time Grimrock 2 was released. Also magic was improved and there were more spells that you could use for all sort of shenanigan and most of them were useful unlike in the first game, where you would mostly just spam DMG spells and maybe use invisibility if you pumped Air magic. It also got rid of somewhat bad way of needing hundreds of skillpoints to even master one and maaaaybeee 2 skills in the first game and streamlined it to 5 tiers for every skill so you could have much more variety in your builds.

I sure wish that there were more games like these on the horizon..hopefully they'll come back full circle.

I really gotta hand it to LOG2 for really expanding on what the first did. The new races and classes were a lot of fun to play with and quite a step up from the very basic ones in LOG1. As far as alchemists, I've run up to 3 at a time, but not a single one with a gun, which kinda suck honestly, in fact all the ranged weapons in this are less useful than in the first one but I digress. Better to have one guy do throwing weapons, and another a caster, and have only one alchemist actually train alchemy so he can mix the actual potions, while you get 3 alchemist's worth of ingredients with each step. Pretty munchkiny but it can be fun. The puzzles are pretty diabolical at times, and there are some really crazy combat encounters in this that can be pretty daunting the first time through. I'd be lying if I said I didn't hit up a walkthrough for some of those puzzles lol

On top of what others have said, the food just feels like a way to bereave you of inventory slots. Somebody wrote a whole damn guide to food, but I don't think anyone in history has ever NEEDED it.

I agree with you. In particular the graphics in the outside is fantastic, for example the forest and the moss on the stones. I am not fond of puzzles and it is soooo easy to get stuck, not knowing either how to solve the puzzle or knowing what to do next. The little leprechaun in the dungeon is so annoying. I might have killed him eventually, which felt so good. The first game being in a dungeon is contained and though some puzzles required some work I didn't feel as much frustration.

Do you ever sleep :) I am really loving all the Indie games you are bringing to our attention -many of which I have now purchased. In regards to this games, I really enjoyed it but it was so hard I had to use cheat codes and still never finished it. Some of the micro-second timing needed is way beyond my ability. And as others have said, the puzzles were; on occasion; too hard - even when setting the game to easy mode. Great game all the same but wish it had a mode for us slower paced gamers. All the best and thanks again...Jim (Long time lurker -first time poster)..Cheers

IMO, this and the first game are the best in class Dungeon Crawlers (along with Operencia) that I compare all other games in the genre to. Am currently taking another run through both games, of which I've never been able to solve and complete. I always get hung up on puzzles and end up not knowing where to go or what to do. But since they're fun as heck fire to play, I don't mind starting from scratch in both of them and taking another whack at these insidious, damnable things:)
