Grimrock brought me back to the genre. Ahh, the good ole days of graph paper.

After seeing Dr Incompetent do like over a dozen dungeon crawlers overs the past few months, there has got to be a way to see what he finds his top 3 to be. :(

I adore this series......as soon as I figured out how the ability scores actually work, I became a BOSS at this game.....I made some crazy builds 😂😂😂 like a front row mage with plate armor 🎉🎉🎉 and it worked!!! Just doesn't explain what each ability does for the stat and so my builds didn't work at first....after I was kiting and criting like a champ 🏆

Among other things, I enjoy grid-based games and have this one on a couple of platforms, though I haven't had time to play it. I enjoy your takes on all these games.

 The 2nd was fun too.

I thought this game was great but I got stuck in a puzzle teleporting section and gave up. I may try again this year as the game scratches a specific itch quite well. There is a expanded sequel with outdoor sections as well. It was cool playing with 3D Vision glasses.

Reminds me a lot of Eye of the Beholder.

Reasonably big fan of this series, though man with Grimrock 2 there were so many puzzles that by the end I just started walkthrough'ing them. I definitely wanted a bit more combat challenges than puzzles. I forget the combat/puzzle mix of the first game, but I think it was similar? Definitely seems like players new to the genre could enjoy it, though for me I'd played all the Eye of the Beholder games as a kid (to varying success since I was 12 when the first one came out, so I wasn't exactly the most advanced gamer) and so Grimrock had the easy nostalgia sale from me.

I loved the game at first, but I got to a specific floor and couldn't figure out how to progress, so I gave up. I already had to look up solutions once or twice and didn't fancy doing it again as it takes me out of the experience. Agree that the torch, hunger and magic systems aren't great.
