There was a comedian who had a line about “You know you’re getting old when sleeping injures you”. 😂

Tore my meniscus, inside, on my left leg ... back in Jan 1975, but I didn't get it checked, and it was not diagnosed. Thought it was a sprained knee, I was 17 (Due to Basketball). Initially recovered quickly, no pain after 4 weeks, continued playing, but .... I would get locked knee, that is, my left knee would lock, for no apparent reason. So I go it re-checked, it was a torn meniscus. Surgery July '75, no probes back then, cut me open, spent 7 days in the hospital. Fully recovered, no issues after almost 50 years, I got lucky.

I’m 63. Have torn meniscus, ruptured bakers cyst, arthritis, degenerative cartilage. In construction for 45 yrs. Would like to work to 67. Everything works great but this stupid knee. Don’t want to cook my liver. Getting old is a shitshow.

I had knee trauma during covid. My 2 dogs ran into my knee and hyperextended it, causing a medial meniscal tear diagnosed with MRI, I had a TKA in November 2022. I wore a knee brace before the surgery, I only had to wait 18 months and had same day surgery. Took part in a clinical trial for a new type of device. Pretty much back to normal. I went back to work a as a radiographer, a bit too soon (lots of walking). I just turned 68 and I walk lots and ride my bike when the weather is nice. Life is good!

I was waiting to see a picture of the knee showing exactly where it would hurt with meniscus tear; that would be helpful for those of us trying to differentiate between that and a torn MCL (and waiting for 2 months for appt with ortho)

Having a degenerative torn meniscus caused me to literally drag my leg when walking because of the pain. Having osteoarthritis added to the pain. My knee replacement resolved the problem. Great video again Docs!

My first torn meniscus as a runner: knee hurt, saw my PCP, no diagnosis, just sent me to PT. After several sessions, as I was sitting on the table with my legs straight out in front of me, the therapist told me to straighten out my right leg (it wasn't lying flat against the table). I said it was straight. She said, no it's not. She recommended an MRI, which confirmed the torn meniscus. Orthopedist said i needed to prop up my leg and hang weights from it to straighten out my leg. He said if that doesn't work, he was going to put me in a "DEVICE." I didn't want to be in a "DEVICE" so I hung weights from my leg twice a day, working up from a very painful 5 minutes to tolerable 20 minutes. It worked. Orthopedist said let's hold off on surgery because sometimes it can become asymptomatic. Which is just what happened. I resumed running 2 months later. (2nd torn meniscus was 3 or 4 years later in the other leg. Not as serious. It also became asymptomatic). Running for 48 years now. And hoping my hips will hold out. 😊

Hi Doctors!! When I say that I know about meniscus tears, believe me, I know. I'm 49 and had to stop playing hockey 8 years ago after injuring my knee and having my 8th knee surgery.
I'm basically bone on bone. I've had numerous cortisone injections, and my last injection was a Synvisc shot. They've all failed. I'm not ready for a knee replacement because I'm so busy with work, school, hubby, housework, etc, and my youngest son has autism and developmental delay. My knee hurts all the time, but because I've been sober for 16 years following a 5 year addiction to opiates, I only take Tylenol and Ibuprofen. My last knee surgery in 2022 was another repair of my meniscus, and I refused the pain meds. 🎉🎉🎉
Have a great week, Doctors!! ❤

Can you do a video about knee arthritis and how to treat that if the meniscus can’t be fixed?

At 50 I quit smoking, went from doing construction to computer work, moved from Canada to the Philippines, and got fat for the first time. I got a bit of pain in my knee from sleeping on my front on a too-short bed with no support under my feet. I started high-intensity bicycling and weight lifting to lose weight, which didn't work, so I switched to running every second night, which worked great, and after a week I could already see very noticeable results! But every time I ran my knee hurt worse, and at the end of the week it hurt too badly to continue. I stopped for a few months, then started speed-walking up and down hills every second day, which also produced easily seen results in a week, but again the pain made me stop after a week, so I went to a doctor and had an MRI, and was diagnosed with a torn meniscus and a big cyst in my knee. The doctor prescribed some knee exercises, but I went to a knee surgeon, who said there was nothing to be done except to never run or do any exercise with impact or bend my knee more than 90 degrees, ever again for the rest of my life. Which was exactly what I didn't want to hear the most. My research said that the part of the meniscus in the middle was too thin to have blood vessels and so could not heal, but the thicker part around the outside could, and it looked to me in the MRI that the meniscus was blown out around the outside, so I rested it as much as possible for over a year to let it heal as much as possible. I haven't had any pain in it since a month after the MRI, about nine years now, and lately I've been playing a bit of badminton occasionally so I could have some physical activity to share with the kids, even though it involves impact. So far so good, no knee pain. Now I'm 60 and I'm still fat, 185 pounds when I should be 155, and I hate it. I want to start low-impact dance exercise, but I haven't been able to motivate myself to do it.
