This whole channel is such a breath of fresh air. Actual specific advice, beyond mere empty vagaries? I feel like I should be paying for these, and you're just putting them out there for free?

This is one of the most specifically useful dungeontube i’ve seen in 10+ years.

And, once you have players doing this, you can have the NPCs your players don't like point a proverbial gun at the NPCs they do.

It’s so amazing to return to a channel that I saw had only one video and realise it’s the best dnd creator I have ever seen now

Tracking disposition is so important! Some tabletop games even actively use it. The game horror "star hold" literally uses disposition as a game mechanic, where at the end of each escape from conflict it asks if actions taken have affected bonds.

Disposition, used alongside stated opinions is so powerful. I still remember a campaign that I played in where two player characters had a different stance on animals.

One, was an elven druid, who loved nature and honored it by choosing to only eat meat as a last resort because they believed animals deserve respect.

The other character was a dark elf rouge who had escaped the under dark and was trying to fit in. They kept bringing the other elf their kills as gifts, believing that hunting and then surrendering the food to another was a great honor.

To the dark elf, they were sharing with and respecting the other people.. but to the druid, all they saw was a brute who kept attacking innocent creatures and bringing death to their door.

It was a huge character moment when one night at camp, the dark elf specifically went out and very badly tried to "pick berries instead.." coming back to shove three little berries into their hand with a statement of "I don't get it, but.. here."

I have been DMing for 43 years now, and playing for almost as long. And with all that experience, I still found this to be a useful video- as others in the comments have noted, a rarity in the dungeontube space. You've earned yourself a subscription. My one suggestion: you mentioned milanote in your DM section, and I would consider adding a link to it in your video description in the "Tools I Use" section. (I looked for it there, didn't find it, and had to go back and rewatch part of the video. Not the worst fate in the world, but just a thought!)

Brennan calling it rocket fuel and you wearing a Nasa rocket sweater is brilliant

My Ranger character kept a list of NPCs that annoyed or angered him, which was his revenge list. He went out of his way to get revenge with people who upset him, and although he would forgive people who apologized, he was petty and vindictive with people who didn't try to make things right. It was an immensely fun chance for him to take strong opinions and act on them in extremely overt ways. And it wasn't just himself, he also carried grudges and sought vengeance for his party members, but because of the way he executed on those ideas it was always a little messy who liked his ideas and what opinions they had about his revenge. It was extremely fun

You write. You draw.
As you move your hand, the lines start to run.
And with the lines, your mind runs free.
So, writing by hand is like sending your mind on a journey, see?

Yes this is really good. I've certainly heard the advice about supporting the other players in their roleplaying - seeing them and giving them the encouragement that another player thought what they were doing is cool. But this is bigger. It's not just about support, it's about building the entire drama - even if your character is responding negatively to something a PC or NPC has done. Deepening the story.

even as a trained improviser, these tips are great reminders about what makes it all "work." it's a funny thing, but there are few things more vulnerable than honestly playing pretend

Yeeeees! I have never seen anyone else track their character’s disposition towards NPCs and other PCs in a journal before! I’ve been doing it for a long time and find that it not only helps make even one-note NPCs feel more real, it also helps me better judge how my character would react in any given interaction. Freat video! The National Treasure example is Brilliant!
