Linux: 35 years in 35 facts in 35 minutes

35 years ago, Linus Torvalds posted a message about a small, experimental operating system he was building in Finland. He had no idea it would become one of the most important pieces of software infrastructure in the world. In this video, we explore 35 facts that tell the story of Linux, from its origins as a hobby project to its role in powering Android, cloud infrastructure, supercomputers, developer tools, and even spacecraft. Along the way, we look at the companies, projects, and people that shaped Linux's incredible journey: Linus Torvalds, IBM, Red Hat, Google, Microsoft, Intel, Hewlett-Packard, Docker, Git, Android, Ubuntu, Debian, the Linux Foundation, NASA, Steam, and more. We'll cover the moments that changed Linux forever, from the early battles over proprietary software and Microsoft's attempts to challenge Linux, to the creation of Git, the rise of Linux in the cloud, the Heartbleed vulnerability, the XZ backdoor, and the massive ecosystem of companies that now depend on the Linux kernel. Most importantly, this isn't just a story about an operating system. It's a story about open source, collaboration, community, and what happens when you build technology that no single company can ultimately control. From a university student's hobby project to software running billions of devices and some of the world's most important infrastructure, this is the story of how Linux took over the world. #Linux #LinusTorvalds #OpenSource #LinuxFoundation #IBM #RedHat #Google #Microsoft #Intel #Oracle #Amazon #Docker #Git #GitHub #Android #NASA #Valve #Ubuntu #Debian #SoftwareEngineering #TechHistory #developercommunity ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ℹ️ Check out Stateshift 👇 We deliver the GTM engine for products technical people choose...and the buyers who hate being sold to.
