As soon as I heard that a Step-father became sexual with his step-daughter, that was it for me. What an utter abuse of a power position, and a strong indicator of who this man was and what was to come in their relationship.

This isn't related to the story, I just wanted to say thank you. I have a friend who has gone blind recently and he was depressed because there's really very little entertainment for blind folk. He's not usually interested in murder mysteries (more of a paranormal guy) but after I'd gone on and on about Stephanie's thorough research skills, he gave Crime Weekly a try and now he's hooked. He's also subscribed (with the help of his son) to Stephanie's channel as well. So, a big thank you from my friend (and possibly others in the blind community) for painting a vivid picture with your story telling.😊

Just one small note: “AA” and “Al-Anon” aren’t interchangeable. Al-Anon is a fellowship for the loved ones of alcoholics, and AA is for the alcoholics themselves. Sometimes the memberships do overlap.

People can absolutely be 2 different people. A boy I went to high school with stole my virginity & left me in a ditch. Because I was young & stupid, & we were in the same friend group, I continued to be around him. He raped me again. It was the 80s, & things were different. I blamed myself, & became very self destructive.
I moved across town, but ran into him here & there over the years. One night, at a friend’s memorial, he apologized out of the blue. I was quite taken aback. I accepted his apology.
Over the years, if his name came up, it was always positive. Great job on the water, making 300k. Great house on the water. Married decades, 2 kids & a fucking dog. An old friend of ours had a brain tumor, & he paid a big portion for him to have surgery, & helped save his life.
I was actually at a party one night, talking to someone I had just met. He starts telling me about his good friend had rescued a young woman from being raped. Guess who!! That was too much. I’m sure he didn’t know what to think when I said, “oh, really?! Cause he stole my virginity & left me in a ditch.”
He must have believed me, because
we actually became friends for a while.

So, his job required that he “keep his nose clean”. There could be no drama, no controversy, no trouble of any kind, even outside work hours. Over the years, I never saw him out at night, or drinking….until our 30th reunion. As the night wore on, & he became intoxicated, he started becoming too friendly. (Both our spouses, of decades, were present) He ended up talking about “what fun” we had in hs. I replied it COULD have been fun, if he had played nice. He looked me in the eyes & said “I just want to do it one more time”, as if raping me twice in one lifetime wasn’t enough. Pure fucking evil, right there in the “perfect man”.
Alcohol seems to bring this out in him.
I was so hurt. I had accepted his apology for unacceptable behavior. I had been duped. I cried when I realized I had forgiven him, but hadn’t forgiven myself. I’m 56, & this man changed me, changed the course of my life. He passed away last year, & here I am, still being affected by his actions 40 years later.

I had an abusive father and while I could talk about what truly happened, others like his mother or friends would say he was a good man.

If people have a hard time believing the tampon story, then they'd probably say i'm lying about my entire relationship if i told them the stories i have with my ex and the ridiculous things he would get mad about while i had no idea i did what he'd claim. he always twisted and misinterpreted my words and actions, he was so skeptical of me and everyone --he thought we were all in on one big joke against him.

he'd suggest i was purposely standing too close to the guy in line behind me at chipolte on purpose to make him jealous...
or the reason i left my belt hanging on the bedroom door handle was a statement or reminder for him so when he looks at it he'll remember im a "slut" and will take my pants off for anyone...
he would listen to every lyric in the songs i'd play and take them litterally when half the time i hadnt even known the lyrics, to the point where i stopped playing any music around him because he thought all the songs were me sending him a message.

it turns out he has schitzoaffective disorder that had progressively developed in his early 20's. he had always been paranoid but i initially thought it was insecurities because it wasnt always so extreme and it wasnt towards me until i became his gf. he was also an alcoholic and occasional drug user which would escalate the paranoia as well. it. is. real.

I can without a doubt say that people can absolutely be both a monster and a saint depending on the person you talk to. My Dad for example was a Christian pastor. He went to church 2-3 x a week. He helped every ministry in the church. He ran his own successful plumbing company. But he was also a raging alcoholic and drug addict. At home he was always high and drunk, and would verbally and sometimes physically abuse my mother. He would hide his addiction and abuse to everyone else around him of course and my friends at church could never understand why I never hugged my Dad or liked spending time with him. Because to everyone at Church and at work, my Dad was this amazing perfect pastor, husband and father. But he was none of those things in reality. So yes I do believe that people can be two completely opposite things at once.

I so believe her and honestly dont blame her for what she did so far, as soon as she mentioned the “dead eye look” my stomach sank. As a victim of domestic violence, I know that look too well and it’s terrifying. Their eyes look empty, so filled with rage, almost like theyre looking through you, its so terrifying and nothing you say they will hear. I feel sorry for her. Most women are submissive during domestic violence, she sounds pretty dominant at points with they way she fought back and talked back. No wonder it escalated, good for her for taking his life.

You can absolutely be both. My step dad was extremely abusive to all of us in our home, but everyone he worked with & even other family members thought he was great. We were absolutely trapped.

I was with my daughters dad for 7 long years. The first 2 years were the “honeymoon years.” He was so loving & kind. I thought he was perfect for me & wanted to marry him. After I gave birth to my 2nd daughter he started being emotionally & financially abusive. I was isolated.. wasn’t able to talk to my friends. It got so bad he didn’t even want me to see & talk to my family! Then he started physically abusing me. I left & I believed his lies so I went back. I stopped trying cause I knew he would kill me. I had enough I didn’t want my daughters thinking it was OK. The day I left he choked me. My life flashed before me & I knew If I didn’t leave for good he would kill me.. It’s been 7 years since I left & I’m so thankful for my parents! They helped me get away from him. I’m a Rape & Domestic Violence Survivor. There are so many survivors 💜! You’re not alone. If you’re with an abusive partner please make a SAFE getaway plan. I know it’s dangerous when we try to leave. You deserve so much more & you are worth it!! I know this sounds mean, but the next time they hurt you it could be the last 😔. Please reach out to someone you trust & a Domestic Violence shelter.
