I finally left my abuser after he broke my ribs after not eating a pizza he ordered when it was hot because i was asleep. I told him when i heal and can act normal in front of my family id be gone and he laughed and said "yeha right." I woke up two weeks later with minimum of my things and my aunt picked me up and i never looked back. I lost soo much but i also gained my life back.

There needs to be a mandatory high school class about identifying abusive and coercive behavior. They DO read out of the same play book. We can teach it to kids so that they can recognize the signs and get out before it’s too late

I would LOVE if Crime Weekly could do a series on individuals who survived their stalkers/attackers

20 years ago I read in a parenting magazine “Guilt will never entirely leave you once you are a parent. As a parent, if you don’t feel guilty, then you aren’t doing it right.

Wow, I was extremely careful when my abuser was served a RO - I had moved, told my job and had a way to protect myself because they were fired from their job on the spot when I reported with police reports, and documented proof of their abuse.  I couldn't sleep and my mind was a scrambled mess plus my stomach freaked out for these months. I sought support, went to court, faced them and their lies, dismissing their threats as kidding, but in the end, the judge believed me over my abuser.  It was the scariest thing I have ever been through.  Thank you for pointing all the signs and dangers out.

Having a stalker is terrifying.  Luckily I escaped without being physically impacted but the feeling of being vulnerable always stays with you.

Sometimes the gift of this  show is the light it shines on the patterns of toxic relationships. That knowledge is the key to releasing the pain of self blame.

My ex who is my children’s father has bipolar disorder and had been extremely unstable the last few years of our relationship. I had 2 totally different experiences with police (different departments) when it came to harassment.  My first experience the police basically made it seem like it was all my fault for being in that situation, I was hospitalized at the time in preterm labor at 25 weeks so my brother talked to them in person as well and they were extremely demeaning and did absolutely nothing to help me. My next experience was amazing. I had 2 officers in communication with me, multiple follow ups and reassurance, I felt very heard and safe. Luckily things did not escalate but I gained so much perspective having both experiences.
