I have a rock absolutely packed with Brachiopod fossils, found it when I still lived in my home state up north. When I found it I used to daydream about this lush aquatic environment where there were just so many that they continuously left behind a heap of shells that then got fossilized into the muck. But, that's a hell of a lot of density. It's like... barely any room between fossils and at least a couple hundred in the roughly 10" diameter flattened rock. Makes much more sense that something very bad killed off millions of them, which sank into the bottom sediment, piled up and then fossilized into what I now have over my computer desk. It might as well be a gravestone.

So... Trees do not actually fart, but when they dig into methane laden soil, it bubbles up through them. Really, they are more swamp fart chimneys that released the methane rather than producing and releasing it themselves.

Glad no one lit a match. Then we would have gotten FIREBALL EARTH ( like the later Snowball Earth) but one where everything and everyone is fried to a crisp.
