On day one of clinical training we were taught that any BP reading measured before less than ten minutes of the patient sitting quietly was meaningless. We even tested one another in class to prove that simply standing and walking across the room can raise systolic BP by 20-50 mmHg. Now, when was the last time your doctor even spent ten minutes with you, much less waited ten minutes before taking your BP? We are all over-diagnosed, over-treated, and overcharged.

I'm 80 years old, and I have a blood pressure problem. BUT... it's not what might think. For the past 50 years that I have tracked my blood pressure, it has been 105/60. "Oh, that's great" you might be thinking. But it's not. It causes orthostatic hypotension that means any time I get up out of a bed or even a chair, I have to pause, bend over, and let the dizziness pass because not enough blood is reaching my brain. And that's not the worst of it.

Late last year I got a double whammy of covid followed by pneumonia with considerable lung scarring because of it. The low blood pressure reduces the amount of blood being sent to my lungs, which when combined with the damaged alveoli from the lung scarring means my blood oxygen level is frequently below 90%, sometimes setting off the alarm on my pulse oximeter that says seek medical attention.

I can walk at a brisk pace without being short of breath. I can paddle my kayak at a competitive pace for hours at a stretch, never missing a stroke. I do a morning exercise routine that would trouble most 40 year olds until they had trained up to it. But any kind of heavy exercise, such as carrying my 50 pound kayak and putting it on the storage rack will put me on the verge of passing out after 30-40 seconds of effort. A year ago I could run up four flights of stairs. Now I have to stop and recover at the top of each flight.

This is an aspect of blood pressure that most people are unaware of.

My health was in a bad place, and I felt like I had tried everything with no results. What finally worked was something I found in a video titled β€œHow Thompson Reverted High Blood Pressure.” That treatment made a huge difference in my life πŸ™

Medication: "a temporary solution while you make the appropriate lifestyle changes." This is a HUGE point that is not being pushed enough. I've suffered from some afib events and was given blood thinners and told to go on my way. Horrible advice for so many reasons. Luckily, I found the correct advice elsewhere. Thank you for making this point in the video.

I always thought also someone with a good heart will have higher blood pressure than someone with someone a weaker heart.

All standards are currently lowered so that everyone has "too high" blood pressure and is on medication for the rest of their lives.

There’s something so deeply grounding about your story it reminds us that numbers don’t always define a life well-lived. You’ve spent your years moving, working hard, eating real food, and staying connected to nature and family things modern medicine often overlooks. The fact that you’ve reached your 90s, still with strength and humor, says more about true health than any chart could. Your perspective is peaceful, wise, and a powerful reminder that longevity isn’t just about medication it’s about purpose, simplicity, and love for life itself. Thank you for sharing such a heartfelt reflection.

My blood pressure is 127/76. I’m 60. This is the average pressure over my life span and now all of a sudden it’s considered high and they want me to take medication! No way
