The TRUTH About Emotional Affairs...

Any kind of affair can cause betrayal trauma for the person betrayed. Saying that the betrayed partner is partly at fault is very victim blaming and kind of gross. Cheating is a series of choices resulting from an individual’s poor boundaries and lack of emotional maturity. Asking a betrayed partner to accept blame or to say that they contributed to their partner’s choices is neither healthy or conducive to truly healing anything. It’s the equivalent of telling a physically abused partner they need to take some accountability because abuse doesn’t occur in healthy relationships.

Just the fact that anybody needs a question. If it's an okay thing, or if it's not an okay thing you have answered yourself. Not okay

Instagram and Facebook have made emotional affairs much more common. My wife spends so much time on these two that I suspect something is going on. When I found out that her ex fiance was friends with her (behind my back) and made a comment about one of my daughter's pictures on my wife's post, she became defensive and said get an therapist or an attorney. It was pretty obvious, I hit a nerve with her.

This is horrible for the person that was betrayed. I’ll admit that maybe I wasn’t available as much as I should’ve been emotionally but it doesn’t excuse your partner for letting something like this happen. I was completely caught off guard. She could’ve brought things to my attention that were lacking in the relationship and we could’ve worked on things. 19 years in a marriage with 3 young kids and zero effort to reconcile. Outside of not being available emotionally she never had to question if I loved her, if I found her attractive, if I was there to support her and her family in many instances, if I was good father, if I was loyal…I always reinforced these things with action and emotion. It’s a painful thing to go thru. We are now separated and I’m moving on but really wish we could’ve spoken about things and resolved our issues before it got to this point.

On the unmet needs comments, it’s not that the betrayed spouse didn’t meet the needs. It’s about letting someone else meet those needs. If you are a bad communicator, that doesn’t lessen your culpability for cheating over unmet needs. Your spouse may have been fully capable and trying to meet those needs. If you don’t let them or fail to communicate with them, that’s on you. If your spouse refuses to meet those needs, the appropriate response is to leave. Such a misunderstood concept.

I have confronted her several times only to be the one that blame goes back on, she has been giving male coworker rides home from work for almost 3 years! She said when they started it would only be occasional, and her mood is much better at work, what did I do wrong? Can someone please help! I think I am going to fall apart here!
