Calling the Alchemist "one of the darkest books" is the biggest stretch in the history of mankind, it's a book filled with hope and drive.

The crucible was based on true events. In real life, Abigail was only 11 when she was raped by the man she was working for, and his excuse was that he had a sick wife. Even if you raise her age by a couple of years like in the book, she was a still a victim.

I too had to read Catcher in the Rye in school. I was 16 and had already left home. I had my own apt. A full time job and went to highschool. I was already an adult for all practical reasons. I thought Holden Caufield was an idiot. He had lived a privliaged life, had never had to struggled for his wants, let alone his needs. Yet he felt free to judge everyone else doing what needed to be done to survive as phony. I always wondered what Caulfield's attitude would have been a couple decades later. After life had taught him a few things.

The Bluest Eye is so tragic, her friends plant marigolds because it is said that if a marigold blooms a healthy child will be born after she gets pregnant from her Father (Btw, her Mom starts beating her because she believes Pecola wasnt raped but initiated sex with her Father)

Her child dies; she loses her mind and believes finally that she has blue eyes because of the way people treat her having gone through so much hardship but she believes she is being treated differently because of her blue eyes.

Wuthering Heights has so much psychological and emotional and mental abuse in it but it has quickly become my favorite book ever. I feel like people are really harsh on some of the characters. Heathcliff is Heathcliff so I can't really defend him lol but Catherine was only a teenager when she died; she was annoying and a spoiled brat but she also never got a chance to grow up and died pretty sh*ttily which I don't think she deserved. And people let Edgar and Hindley off way too easy imo. If you hate Heathcliff, you should hate Hindley more because he is a major part of why the man came out as f*cked up as he did. It's sad though because the two men lost women they loved to childbirth and instead of any bonding between them it's just abuse to the end.
