  The ambush at LZ Albany is well known to any casual student of the Vietnam War . To continue the movie &apos;We Were Soldiers&apos; into the the next few days of that campaign and include the ambush on the way to LZ Albany would have made the movie 5 hours long . After the LZ X-Ray fight , 1st/7th Cav was removed and 2nd/5th Cav started a movement from X-Ray to Albany . Mistakes were made along the march , flankers were not put out , artillery was not pre-plotted to support the march , scouts were not sent ahead , and other tactical errors contributed to a devastating ambush .

  Moore, and Galloway didn&apos;t live the LZ Albany battle and were unable to give a firsthand account of it. They lived the LZ X-ray battle, and knew exactly what happened there. I don&apos;t blame them at all for writing about what they lived.

  I read the book, it was the saddest book I have ever read. The part about the wives getting the western union telegram that were the death notice&apos;s. Col. Hal moore&apos;s wife decided to deliver them. That said a lot about the integrity of the leadership. Even his wife didn&apos;t have to deliver the notice&apos;s and offer comfort. She knew her husband was in the battle, waiting to get her husband&apos;s notice

  “We were soldiers” is clearly following Hal Moore, Joe Galloway is there, but it’s overwhelming following Hal Moore, who was not at Albany, probably why it was not covered. Highly recommended the Book though.

  If you read the book, it gets hard to turn the pages when the story turns to Albany. It is horrifying to read. There is no way they could have conveyed in a movie and I am glad they didn&apos;t.

  I served at LZ albany a fire suport base near the borader and LZ X-ray , we always ran into the NVA at this A&gt;O.1969 570K american troops in country.
