Speaking of lowering numbers, there are guys who are still dying from direct effects of the war. 58K was the absolute minimum they could come up with. Nobody ever counted how many have died since then and from what. Nobody wants to know: Too many cancers and too many suicides and too many accidents. There were 2 million Vietnamese dead. It was a major war. We downgraded that too.

I was lucky to be back at Camp Eagle when this kicked off. A battery 2/11 lost 4 soldiers. The Division Commander decided to finally evacuate Ripcord.

My brother was there, in the 101st. He doesn't tell me much about it, except describing the night they abandoned the base and how they walked out at night by holding on to the man in front of him because you couldn't see your hand in front of your face.

I was wounded on Firebase Ripcord on July 18th when the Chinook was shot down on the ammo dump. Praise The Lord I survived this Great video and story. Thank you
