This may be a stop motion cartoon but it is still sad.

I lived in Bedford for 3 years. Charming little town. They honor the soldiers from Bedford who died in D-Day. Each man has a display on Main Street.

My grandfather was a combat engineer who landed on Omaha Beach on 6 June 1944. At the end of the day he found a knocked out tank to crawl under to get some precious sleep. He figured it's already blown up, surely it won't get hit again. He went all the way to Berlin. He had nightmares until he died at 80 - I used to hear him jumping out of bed in the middle of the night, sometimes hollering.

Everyone needs to read the book “The Bedford Boys”. It brings a tear to me every time I read it.😔

My dad's guard unit was activated in the fall of 1940. Came home in September 1945. Four days short of five years. Didn't talk much about it. Have his units yard long framed unit picture and flag on the wall. He would keep a mental list of everyone. I remember one day he said someone died, " just me and Bill _____ and me left out of the outfit." Bill ___ was the last man standing.

My Uncle Max was 18yo Private in "Easy Company" 101st Airborne, Screaming Eagles. His first jump was Operation Market Garden, he wasn't mentioned in movie. I found his photo. He was shot in hand Day #3 of Op Market Garden. He lost 3 fingers. He was so humble. When i would shake his hand , he would joke about the missing fingers. But he never spoke of what happened. When he passed away in his 80's, the Military at funeral told us he was in Easy Company with all the HBO series guys. ❤
