  According to an Ex-Yugoslav colleague Tito was his nickname because when he was giving instructions to various people he would say something like the Yugoslav equivalent of 'You do this' 'You do that'. I do not speak any Yugoslav so maybe someone who does can figure it out.

  Another intriguing video documentary on this channel. &nbsp;Keep it up. &nbsp;However a bit repetitive towards the end. &nbsp;I believe I read Maclean&apos;s &apos;Eastern Approaches&apos; as a schoolboy, but it had become a very dim memory<br>A close friend of my father, J.K.H. Shaw was landed by submarine in Albania in 1944 as part of the S.O.E. effort to support Hoxha&apos;s partisans. &nbsp;But he had the misfortune to be attached to a particularly useless brigade and had to try to discourage them from liquidating non-communist resisters. &nbsp;The intended purpose was to attack German units then withdrawing from Greece along the coast-road, but this they were extremely reluctant to do. &nbsp;From the detailed report he wrote, (released about 60 years later by the P.R.O.) his mission was clearly not a success. &nbsp;His photo is in Rod Bailey&apos;s book, &apos;The Wildest Province: SOE in the Land of the Eagle&apos;, extracted from a group photo at my parents&apos; wedding in March &apos;41 at which he was best man.<br>The following year he was parachuted behind enemy lines in South Kentung State, one of the Shan States in Eastern Burma. &nbsp;No record of any kind to be found except the citation to his M.C. from which it appears the purpose was intelligence. &nbsp;But he raised about 300 hill-tribe levies who despite very limited resources attacked and disrupted Japanese and Thai L-of-C through the area. &nbsp;This would have been about the time the Karen and Karenni levies of S.O.E&apos;s Character Operation were thwarting attempts by the retreating Japanese to reinforce Toungoo before XIVth Army got there. In conversation in late 2003 with the founder/editor of an online Shan journal, it seems the levies were Lahu, not Shan.<br>John Shaw returned to the regiment, the R.U.R., at the war&apos;s end, and was killed at the Imjin in April &apos;51. &nbsp;My father had remained with 1/R.U.R. and was killed in Deauville in August &apos;44.

  I would dispute that Tito was much better than the Royalist leader. All signals from the Balkans went to an office in Cairo. Then a Report was sent to London. It so happened that the British Officer was a communist &nbsp;and distorted the reports so that Tito would get more Weapons &amp; Munitions which would place the Communists in a stronger position after WW2, to beat the Royalists in a Civil War.<br>SOE had a brilliant Officer in charge an important Railway Line for German logistics he got the two groups to work together to bring doŵn a viaduct something that either one or the other couldn&apos;t achieve the objective alone.
