Hard to believe how young those crews were. Flying straight into enemy fire in broad daylight… it takes a kind of courage we don’t see much anymore. Watching this really makes you appreciate what they went through.

My Great Uncle Sam Laface was a member of the Mighty 8th. Flew on the Piccadilly Lilly, came home flew 28 missions I believe. Wonderful man,had horrible arthritis in his hands. That didn't stop him,he was a scratch golfer.I miss him dearly.

Some of the planes were obviously drawn and painted on parts of the film. Very easy to spot in the colorized portions of the film. They did what they had to do back then I guess to put together a film however it should be noted. Still amazing the courage of these young men to have the stones to go up time and time again after getting shot to pieces each time.

If y'all haven't seen Masters of the Air it's highly recommended, it covers the B-17 flying fortresses throughout this campaign and others, and absolutely amazing show and true story

Those who gave their lives for us paid for our freedom. We can never repay them. I am humbled.

Man it’s so cool back in the day a fighter pilot could just go fly his spitfire to his buddies base to visit and then make his buddy fly it just for fun.
