My dad was a crew/chief flight engineer on a B-17E (41-9029) 1942-43 in India and the middle east. Fascinating to hear an E model is still around.

One of two -E model survivors, to my knowledge. There's one undergoing restoration in Hawaii that was retrieved from a jungle in New Guinea.

They call me the desert rat in my wing of the CAF I hope to see this one fly someday. Kinda been watching its progress for years , maybe the CAF could lend a hand?

This B-27 was built as an E vision, but was converted to a cargo plane. What a daunting project.

You know the cargo version was a rare variant that was original to World War 2. Why not just leave it as is and show it off?

It wasn't the Army Air Corps in 1942, in June of 41 its name was changed to Army Air Forces.

I knew someone that was a ball turret gunner on an early B-17G, bare metal with the chin turret. He always said it was a late model F. I am wondering with the builder’s plate that they may have used a F model builder’s plate on the first G models. He would have seen the builder’s plate every time he entered the aircraft. The tail number goes to s G model.
