My father was in 8th Air Force Combat Camera. He never fired a shot in anger but took some of these pictures. May his memory be a blessing.

My Dad was a waste gunner on a B17, 8th Air Force, England, 1943, he never talked about it much, but cried big tears when I pressed him for what it was like...I know he suffered emotionally but was too proud of a man to admit that he could have sought benefit's from VA but he said those maimed physically needed it more then he did. What a great generation of Americans. I miss him to this day.

My father was the flight engineer on B-17's and B-24's. He really didn't talk about his time in England except to occasionally mention he would never eat mutton ever again. He did talk briefly about it after he had a stroke later in life. On a trip to Germany in the 80's someone on the tour asked if he was in WWII - from his response it was especially tough knowing that the bombing raids may have killed German relatives. I am extremely thankful to be alive knowing how many men did not come home. My parents got married quickly after he returned home, he finished his service in California before coming back home to start a business. Around 2005 my father attended one the 8th Air Force's reunions where he was reunited with the pilot of the plane they bailed over the channel - they hadn't see each other since 1944 arguing who would be the last to jump - I'll never forget them quietly standing and looking at each other for several minutes before saying a word. His faith in God was the most important part of his life followed by his his family -- He lived to be 98. I loved my parents.

Man, that briefing was brutal. The weather briefing even more so. Imagine being ordered to fly heavily loaded into combat with icing at or near your altitude. I was born in 1966; I knew many WWII vets. Some were in my family. Most would not talk about the war until near the end of their life. I remember once us kids were playing in the deep snow and my uncle came out in bare feet, with no shirt to get firewood. We thought he was crazy and asked him "Aren't you cold?" he paused and turned around and said, "aw hell this aint cold, I've been a lot colder than this" I didn't find out till many years later that he was at the Battle of the Bulge and was wounded. A lot of people these days, don't understand the dire circumstances that made most of a whole generation people make these sacrifices. God Bless them all🙏

This is the best, most detailed record of a WWII bombing mission I have ever seen. Thanks for persevering the past!

It always gets me watching these kind of films, to relize this was reality to so many young men. My dad is in a " Greatest Generation " parade on Sept. 1, celebration of VJ day. WW2 vet of the Pacific war. Turns 100 the next day.
I'm marching beside him, while he rides . Couldn't ne prouder. So humbling...

This should be required viewing for every school , they may appreciate how many good men fighting for their freedom were blown out of the sky, 75 percent of all air crew didn't make15 missions, heroes didn't come home, alive.

I went to college in 1981 and there was a guy sitting in the back of a WW2 history class. About 70 years old. He was a B17 pilot during WW2. Didnt say much. One time he spoke up and corrected the professor. on the German raids . Thats the only time he ever spoke up. We never knew till then. Mush respect. RIP
