Thank you for creating this channel,
My dad was a navigator on a B-17,
He was shot down twice over occupied France.
Served 25 missions then went on to serve in Korea.
My dad was a great American…
I truly appreciate the greatest generation.
Sadly it seems their sacrifices have been all but forgotten.

I am a Brit living in the area where the US bases were. My friend used to own the farm at 6.47 to 7.0. which was used for the opening shots of the original Memphis Belle film. Many of the bases are still there in one form or another. Most have a memorial which we honour each 11th November. You can still see a lone Stars and Stripes flying in an English field. We have one B17 still flying from Duxford Museum where there is a hanger dedicated to the US airmen who gave their lives in the conflict. This is a great video and worthy of the sacrifice of the airmen and their crews who came to my country in our time of need. We will remember them.

My uncle Vern was a navigator on b-17s flying out of Ridgewell, in 1944. He flew 29 missions, my hero above all others.

My mother was in Budapest during WW II. She said you could hear the bomber formations coming about 20 minutes before they arrived. You really did not need the air raid sirens.

With the shit I was doing at 19, I couldn't imagine being in a b17 over Nazi occupied Europe on a bombing run. Thank God for these men, because of them, must of us didn't have to do that at that age

I had a great-Aunt who received a big inheritance. She donated the money to purchase a Lancaster Bomber. I never met her but was so proud of her…

My dad was a B-24 navigator. After stateside training, they took the southern route to Africa departing South America from Belem, Brazil to Marrakech, Morocco (~3,000 NM). I know how proud he was to reach Marrakech within 10 minutes of ETA using only celestial navigation as a rookie navigator. I remember a story he told whereby he gave the bombardier a course correction to take up to the pilots, but both were sound asleep! He would eventually fly bombing missions from southern Italy in the same plane and crew until they were shot down over Yugoslavia on their 13th mission. He was smuggled back to his home base with the help of Tito’s resistance fighters and flew 37 more missions before coming home.

Far and away the BEST enhanced video of WWII film I have ever seen. It would be fascinating to to see and hear film that was actually shot with sound that was enhanced as well! Boy technology like this is great!!!

My grandfather shoot down 18 B-17 and 9 B-24 with his FW 190 A , he was flying officer (Staffelkapitän) in the JG 300 ...he was shot down 4 times but survived somehow. He was trained on Frontalangriff, aiming on the Cockpit.
