    I am so impressed with manufacturers leaning into changing their feed sacks to allow for nicer clothing conversion. &nbsp;I can&apos;t imagine a <br>manufacturer doing anything like that now.

    I love the war-time emphasis on looking presentable, and keeping morale up by putting an effort into one’s appearance. As a 60-something, I remember “Sunday best”, and wearing nice clothes to school and parties. It makes me wonder what it says about our society today when teenagers wear baggy track pants everywhere, and nobody seems to care about looking presentable, let alone elegant 😢😢😢. Great video!

    Growing up in the U.S., I studied WW2 from an American perspective. We learned that because of the great depression, which was still fresh in everyones minds, people were already experts in rationing. I will say that it was nothing compared to what the British went through. We were not bombed every night. In the U.S., people could go to the movies to escape reality for a few hours. It&apos;s crazy how people in a war zone cared about how they dressed. Now, I see people wearing p.j.s to the grocery store. We might want to work on that.

    My Granny was a seamstress, and during the war she used to take in sewing jobs, doing the repairs or alterations on her singer sewing machine. Her sons, my dad being one of them, used to pick up and deliver them back to their neighbours. I still have a pair of pillowcases that she made!

    Our neighborhood had a scheduled power outage yesterday. I used the lack of electronic distraction to read the book of &quot;Make Do and Mend&quot; pamphlets. Besides some specific ideas for remaking old clothes, I was reminded of how much time and energy I still have for creativity when I&apos;m not overwhelmed by second-hand drama from the outside world.

    I can only imagine what would happen in present times if the government issued clothing tickets now for rationing. &nbsp;Over consumption is such a way of life now and the idea of sacrifice so foreign.

    My husband does historical reenacting and they used to use army blankets for their doublets. My mom who went through the war years always said she saved her money for good quality clothes because she knew it would last many years. When I buy vintage clothes I always think of my mom. Giving an old piece of fashion a new life.

    I remember reading somewhere that a woman made her wedding dress out of the parachute that saved her fiancée’s life. I don’t know if it’s true or not but it’s a cute story ☺️

    I have a rag doll that my great-grandmother made for me from flour sack fabric, cotton scraps, and an old bandana. (I just turned 60 and she made it for me when I was a baby.)

    My theory is that they looked good because of the limited amount of clothing. That limit made people buy basics that were higher quality and made to last. We buy Temu garbage on a whim.

    Growing up in the 80&apos;s, we usually had a yard sale every year or two. Mother was very astute and could tell what would sell. If times were harder, clothes were what sold. The essentials, so to speak. When times were better, the knick knacks sold. The things that weren&apos;t &quot;needed&quot; but wanted. It was her early version of the &quot;lipstick index&quot;

    Great video as always! I’ve been buying clothing only when it wears out. I attempt to turn the old pieces into something else. My grandmother had a friend who actually made her wedding dress out of an old parachute! It was actually beautiful! I love your frugal videos. The store prices are so high here in the U.S. that I am watching your videos for ideas on how to stretch my dollar. My grocery bill doubled for the same items. My better half is actually on board with my “rationing “ the way we shop. My grandma raised me to make do and mend before all of this happened . Thank you so much ! ❤️ I just love Betty 🐈‍⬛
