I would love to see this concept as a series going into other areas of life like you were talking about - cleaning, laundry, special occasions/holidays etc.!

Leave your potatoes in the ground until the leaves of the plant turn brown. Also, add more soil to your bed. This will give your potatoes more depth to grow in. You can add soil as the plant grows. Just make sure some leaves are above the ground. The stem underground will send out more roots and make more potatoes. Great video!

My mum once asked my granny (1929-2020) what invention had changed the way she had done things around the house the most. Ofc she said that #1 had been the washing machine. But the other thing was a lot more surprising: Sewing machines with zig-zag stitch. Before they could only sew straight. Now she could neaten the edges of the fabric much faster and easier. She could suddently make a whole new range of clothes herself. She could repair a lot more things. So, this new stitch did not only save time, but also quite a bit of money.

The fatigue at the end was for ONE recipe. Now do breakfast. And laundry. And dusting. And windows with vinegar and newspaper. And gardening. And, and, AND... Now imagine you have 4-8 children. And you're pregnant with another. So now you're burning pregnancy and breastfeeding calories and running around after toddlers and handwashing diapers and dressing young ones for school.

There's a reason people of the past ate what they did and were still so tiny. Being a SAHM mom was a FULL TIME job. And it was still easier than working in the coal mines. We had to have such strong people to keep this system going. Mentally and physically, they really did do it all. I admire and respect ALL of them. It's incredible they built this system that we all benefit from now. I'm so grateful for my easy life.

To me, this is a 2 day recipie. A double portion stew simmering on the back burner for the first days dinner while I get on with my work. And "pot pie" for using the left overs on the 2nd day.

I think the nice thing about living in the time we do now is we can always do things the old fashioned way when we want to or when we can, but for things we don’t want to or can’t for different reasons, there’s the options of modern conveniences. We can make our lives the best of both worlds in whatever way works for our lives and we prefer.

So when I first saw you standing in the modern kitchen, my first thought was “that’s not our house!” Lol.

I read an article in the 1980's that said women were doing more housework then than the 1930's. Which seemed strange with better washing machines & vacuums etc. But it was because more showering meant more washing, plus more cleaning and fancier cooking.
