Sometimes you need to be yelled at, even if it’s not your fault. Especially in life or death situations. Yelling starts the first minute of boot camp. It’s done for a reason. People remember being yelled at and usually remember what it was they got yelled at about.

Being a Marine watching this movie, it is by far the most accurate banter in a war movie ever, yea they can be assholes but it’s the only way to stay sane when it comes down to it they’ll die for that man and anyone in that tank

In the end he's told he's a hero. You don't feel like a hero, the lose is too overwhelming.

War is hell. And no one is prepared for it. I cant even imagine the things my grandfather and his brothers may have experienced in WWII. Thank God for those who stand guard against the things that go bump in the night.

26:04 I think the point of the scene is showing the jealousy of the original crew in how Don is treating Norman. Don took Norman upstairs to investigate, finding the two women that would cook them eggs (fresh eggs wouldve been hard to find). During the scene Norman and Emma slept together, and Norman is granted some normalcy by sitting in an intact home in the middle of a warzone. There is even a Piano, which Norman knows how to play showing another level of familiarity and normalcy Norman would've felt along with Emma who was able to sing with the tune. imho its probably the best scene in the movie, for a moment before the crew finds them there is a feeling of the loss of innocence, a flourishing of Norman into something other then the feeble Clerk Typist we first met, having had slept with Emma and killing a man shortly before with the revolver. all with Don being present for the journey. Of course the crew shows up and ,in their calouseness from being at war for so long, found Norman and Don with food, 2 women, and a nice place to possibly loot. I believe they felt offended and enabled by alcohol which caused them to act the way they did. They respect Don, but I believe they felt affronted by what they saw. How could Don, having suffered through so much and bonded with the crew over the 3 years they were at war, treat this new guy so well? Don, being the good leader he is, knew Norman needed him more than the crew. Don not only got him through his first kill but also showed him the reality of war with the suicide of the Nazi officers and provided him a sense of normalcy after the trauma of killing others. Don NEEDS Norman to change in order for the crew to be safe, so he did it in the best way he could. I really enjoy this scene because it really shows that life does go on, no matter the circumstance. Even in a warzone there can be tranquility, and in the next scene they show how fragile that tranquility can be. 10/10 scene with the only music being played throughout being Norman playing for Emma and the chaotic key strikes made by Grady when he entered the room.

SS weren't actually part of the main German military while they often worked together they were a paramilitary group that was loyal to Hitler and the Nazi party. They took care of unsavory tasks like working on the Concentration Camps.

The stuff around 26 minutes in, after seeing Brad's character put on a pedestal -- the rest of the team barging into the "peaceful" interlude, and all of the tension and awkwardness -- that scene is meant to show the limits of his personal authority. He'd prefer to be an honorable man, but even honorable men have to make compromises sometimes. And there are limits to his men's respect.
And then everyone there died anyway. War sucks.
Great movie, though. Take care, Ande.

Fabulous reaction and commentary to this incredible movie.

I believe that, despite seeming cold, heartless and abusive, the crew's treatment of Norman was basically their way of "breaking him in" and exposing him as quickly as possible to the horrors he would face and have to deal with — for his sake and for their own. It isn't possible to gently adjust to being in such a violent and cruel situation. You have to do what has to be done or you and those depending on you will die.

Thank you, Ande. 🤗🥰
