  This stuff is wild to me. I won't judge anyone for wanting the wedding of their dreams, but a marriage is about the relationship, not the wedding. I've been married 19 years. Had a tiny ceremony at the courthouse, then closed down a bowling alley for the evening and bowled, played pool and darts, had a fabulous cake, snacks, and drinks. We STILL get told we had such a fun wedding that everyone felt comfortable attending. Kids had fun, adults had fun, and my husband and I didn't go into debt for it. We had a blast. Our marriage is still going strong, even though our wedding was small.

  I was thinking we need community again. Like someone willing to let the couple use their yard, a few people donating and making like a spaghetti and salad buffet, another to make the cake, another to take pics if someone owns a camera. It would be so special! And if you donate those things or time, THAT is your gift to the bride and groom. I'd love that!!

  I rented a beach house (3 days) for my wedding. Had about 150 guests, but my family and I did everything ourselves. Food (tamales/posole), alcohol, music (pandora premium & big speaker), cake, photography, etc… Total cost: $3000. Everyone still talks about my wedding & how awesome it was. This is so wild!!! Spending this much money for a wedding is so out of touch!

  When D.C. legalized gay marriage in 2010, I called the courthouse and booked the first available slot. It was a random Tuesday afternoon; two of our friends worked nearby and took the afternoon off to be witnesses. Getting my wife added to my health insurance was the best wedding present ever. (I’m American, obvs.)<br><br>I feel so bad for these folks piling on debt for an event that will be over and done in a blink. Starting your married life with a financial handicap is just wild to me.

  My fiance told me his enormous family will expect a large, traditional wedding. I told him I&apos;m sorry but they&apos;re going to be disappointed.

  Wedding price gouging is why I eloped this year with my husband. Got married just the two of us, in a dress I got online for cheap, then hosted a small dinner at a riverside restaurant for friends and family. It was $1,200ish for the restaurant. We brought dessert and had a great time 🎉 no debt and it was amazing. Do whatever <b>you</b> are comfortable with and can afford. Whether it&apos;s big or small. Not what others expect or want.

  With the bachelorette trip with multiple themes per day, I can’t help but think about all the one time use outfits that were purchased by guests and then thrown away. Expensive AND wasteful.

  So my mom is a retired professional baker. As in she did the full on apprenticeship and has &nbsp;had an extensive career, including a ton of wedding cakes. She would always charge to deliver, but leave a free diagram with how to cut the wedding cake itself. Depending on the size and shape, filling, and frosting used, there is a specific way to cut each one to get the correct serving size and ratio that most people don’t know. Plus to not totally massacre the cake in the process. The same way most people cut their cakes isn’t how you cut a wedding cake. That being said, cut your cakes however you want, you may not get the amount of servings you anticipated though and depending on what it’s filled with, it can be really messy and destructive. <br>She knew several other bakeries and business that charged for cake cutting because it does take a while to take apart tiers correctly and safely, cut them to the specific serving via the shape of the cake. She never did because she didn’t like charging for it, but she left the diagram so whoever was cutting and serving knew. Over the years of her career as baker and decorator, she received SO many thank you cards mentioning how helpful the diagram was because they almost always tried it without and would demolish that section of the cake and wouldn’t serve it. But using the diagram it worked great and they saved it. It’s one of the things no one really things about unless they’re in the industry itself

  My husband and I got married in 2023. We were shocked by how expensive EVERYTHING related to weddings was. No wonder the average wedding costs $30k!! We said no to a lot of “typical” wedding things, took a lot of shortcuts, and picked a reasonably priced venue, but we still ended up spending that much. The wedding industry is freaking ridiculous!

  I’ve recently realised that the only reason I wanted to get married was to have a wedding. And the only reason I wanted a wedding was so I could wear a wedding dress. And I defo think wedding culture in social media influenced that. Now I’m just content in a long term relationship.

  I saw a tik tok recently where the girl said “if your wedding costs less than $10k it will look cheap.” made me feel so bad about my wedding even though I loved it
