I know I skipped it in the outro, but thank you so much for watching and supporting my videos! I know I've kind of done a lot on Nintendo lately, and truth be told I already have a few upcoming videos on the docket about various Nintendo games, but I don't necessarily want to be beholden as a "Nintendo YouTuber". This was my first time talking about a film, and it likely won't be the last, as I'd like to stick to my original vision for this channel of making whatever content I feel like making! This is ultimately just a side hobby for me and I enjoy the process of making videos, so thank you for joining me along for the ride, and I hope I can continue to entertain you along the way! My least favorite thing about the film is… the lack of a narrative purpose. Or emotional core. You can say all you want about how the original Mario movie didn’t give Mario a character arc, but he did over come struggles and experience the hero’s journey. This movie does not have that. What it does have is HOOKS. Everywhere. Implications of potential. Is this movie about Mario and Peach’s shared struggle of belonging? They have a genuinely sweet conversation about it in the beginning. Is Peach going to struggle with her place as the mushroom kingdom Princess? Seeking Rosalina not just to save her, but to find answers as to who she is, and where she belongs? Will Mario and Peach bond over this, developing their relationship to something deeper, like how Mario wants, proving that he belongs by her side despite their class difference? No. Peach doesn’t struggle with her place at all once she goes out on her adventure. She leaves, finds the book, learns the truth, and then saves Rosalina. Her and Mario don’t even have a conversation about it. Is this movie about Bowser and Bowser Jr’s relationship? Is it about a father, reconnecting with his once long lost son, and struggling to bond after so much time apart? Is it about him hearing Bowser Jr say that friends aren’t real, and after having bonded with Luigi and Mario, grappling with the realization that he messed up? Seeing how his parenting style hurt his kid, and trying to rectify it? Will they have a Sunshine credits moment? Where they have a genuine, emotional, heartfelt discussion about their family situation, and Bowser cries, knowing he failed him? Nope. The two reconnect just fine, with no resistance. A slight bump when Bowser doesn’t want to kill the bros, but then Bowser immediately goes back to his old way, and is completely on board with the plan. Oh wait, but near the end of the movie, Mario kills Bowser in front of Bowser Jr! In front of his kid! That’s horrible! Bowser Jr is crushed, emotionally wrecked. Are they going to grapple with this? The emotional weight? Will Mario have to live with the guilt of this? Recognizing that, while Bowser did betray them, and he killed him in self defense, him and his child didn’t deserve this. Will he then have to fight off a heart broken, screaming, crying child, who despite their evilness has every right to view Mario as a monster? Will he try to comfort him? Will this carry over into the third movie? Nah. Dry Bowser comes back up a moment later. It was all a fake out. No consequences here! It wouldn’t even be that hard. This movie had potential to be… not even good, just SOMETHING. ANYTHING. The writers had hooks, emotional stakes, lessons they could teach. But they didn’t. They just… didn’t want to… I guess… I’ve never seen a more nothing burger of a plot. It had the most beautiful, colorful, tasty looking bun. But you bite into it, and you find literally nothing else inside.

The way they treated Rosalinas story was so disrespectful they just made her an afterthought and a plot device just to hype up Peach

I mean, the problem with both Mario movies is obvious. The story is as engaging as listening to the Space Junk Galaxy music when it's 3 AM and you are 3/4 asleep already. And the OTHER problem is how a bunch of fans think it is a legitimate rebuttal to say "The Mario games don't have any story. Why would you expect anything else?" BECAUSE A MOVIE IS NOT A VIDEO GAME. Video games can get away with all sorts of weak shenanigans with their stories because they are about the GAMEPLAY. They are interactive in a way that a movie cannot be. Movies have to be more than what the Mario animated movies have been. If they can't find a way to do so, then they shouldn't be made.

I personaly enjoyed the movie but I very much agree that this wasn't a MArio Galaxy Movie. I mean the hole feeling of being alone in the Galaxy doesn't even exist because MArio is never alone in the movie. And the ending was very random because it was an epic fight between The Mario Bros and Bowser and then rosalina and peach touch and everything is grass, what? That was so anti clamactic I mean what was even the point of the battle?

This is what they SHOULD have done for Rosalina: The baby bros and dinosaur chase scene is cut in this rewrite. Instead of Rosalina being Jr’s target for the Boomsday canon, have him instead steal the observatory’s grand star. When Megaleg grabs Rosalina and the yellow Luma, Bowser Jr. threatens the rest of the Lumas in the library with his UFO’s laser. Fearing for the lives of her children, Rosalina surrenders the grand star to Jr. The UFO targets its laser at the observatory’s engine, allowing Kamek to secure his majesty’s prize. Tossing Rosalina aside, Megaleg returns to the UFO before departing, subsequently leaving the space queen and Lumas stranded in space. After Bowser Jr. places the grand star into the Boomsday canon and declaring the time has come to free his father, the film cuts back to Rosalina and Polari (who I’m surprised wasn’t in the film at all) trying to repair the damage brought by Jr.’s attack. Inspired by the stories read by Rosalina about Peach and the Mario brothers, the yellow Luma volunteers to travel to the mushroom kingdom to ask for their help. Instead of the Lumas piloting the observatory to the dinosaur planet, a Luma informs Rosalina about Luigi’s transmission, and then a few of them fly to the planet to bring Mario’s party to the observatory. Upon arrival, the party meets Rosalina who explains the nature the Lumas and her role as their mother. Right after this, Rosalina herself shares Peach the origins of their sisterhood. As to how the observatory’s engine is repaired, Mario and Luigi use their plumbing skills to fix the damaged pipe network that allows the stored energy of the grand star to power the starship. While Mario’s party stops the Boomsday machine, Rosalina fights off the airship armada together with Fox with Space Battleground from Star Fox Assault playing in the background. Although Mario saves Bowser Jr. from the loosened Ruined Dragon, he, together with Luigi, Yoshi, and Peach struggle to take the beast down. To make matters worse, the Ruined Dragon swallows the grand star after Peach liberates it, subsequently causing the dragon to grow exponentially in size. Due to Rosalina’s exhaustion from her fight with the armada, Peach shares her power with her sister to restore her strength. During an epic clash between Rosalina and the Ruined Dragon, the final boss theme of either galaxy game plays in the background. After Mario and Peach return the grand star to Rosalina, who then restores it to the comet observatory, the space queen wishes for the stars to shine down on Mario and the others for all time.

The entire purpose of this movie was one giant marketing stunt for their IP. Mario galaxy is one of the most beloved story focused mario games and they shit the bed cause they got greedy with the endless amount of easter eggs and references and cameos.

I think the reason why Luigi was the "damsel in distress" in the 1st movie is because Peach and mario don't know each other, so it wouldn't have that urgency
