Why Nintendo almost got rid of Miis

I think part of what makes Miis so compelling is the fact they can be ugly. Most character creators either force everyone to be homogenous and conventionally attractive (such as Sportsmates or the Xbox Kinect avatars), and the few that don't are from games with mostly setting-specific choices (such as Dark Souls and Baldur's Gate 3). Miis have options that reflect the "imperfections" of real people's appearances, and without wasting resources that detract from its purpose as an all-purpose self-insert.

So weird to say Miis didn't have arms when they did in the original Mii Maker.
The Tomodachi Life iteration of the Miis might be the best version of the Miis yet.

Having Miis is one of Nintendo's best ideas and they were gonna throw it all away?! I'm glad they didn't

Losing Miis for those Xbox Avatars would have been blasphemy.

they really struck gold in living the dream with the customization -- it kept the simple and effective style of the original while just adding onto it. i love the face paint feature because it works on so many levels, you can either add little details like moles or piercings or make your miis resemble nothing of the sort, its such a great inbetween

I do like how they decided to give Miis 3D ears now

Let's not forget that Miis are in the smash roster. They're solidified with all the other 100+ characters as Nintendo and gaming legends.

EDIT: As of July you can just buy a copy, seriously y'all need to recognize when YouTubers are pandering to whatever opinions you hold.

They didn't even expect the new Tomodachi life to sell this well, seeing as it's sold out everywhere and the copies available are expensive as hell

Edit: I think Nintendo realized they created a avatar creator that can never be beaten. Miis were a creation to represent not only you but anyone else from real life or media to use them in video games. That alone make miis irreplaceable.

Also the amount of creativity is very immaculate compared to other Avatar editors

“But I thought it would be difficult to incorporate it into today’s game consoles” But the simple design and sphere hands were what made the Miis so charming, what the hell was the problem?!

Miis feel like a more homey and friendly evolution of stick figures. They can be expresssive in a simple but loveable way, and still offer enough detail and customization to excite most people. I hope Miis stick around for a while. I haven't looked at the sales numbers but it seems reception for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has been really good, and the game looks really charming! It's another game that really feels like a classic Nintendo game in spirit.
