Finally a good 50k guide that’s worth a darn. Why aren’t people willing to talk about the ACTUAL running part? Most of these “Here is how to run a 50k” just talk about the gear they use and oh btw, here is my code for 10% off 😂

#1 cannot be overstated. Definitely trail run for time and NOT miles. Plan to go out for a 1 hour run or a 2 hour long run. Not a set amount of miles! There are miles where I am doing 20min/mi because of elevation and technical trails. Don’t get stuck focusing on miles. Time on feet!

Great video!! I started ultras at 40, when I got sick and tired of feeling old and slow. 5ks were so stinking hard at that point, my pace was dropping every year, and I was losing my love of running. Ihad taken 6 months off...Then I watched a video on the Glen Coe Skyline race, and boom- I was gonna run an ultra!! 😂😂 I took about 8 months to prep for my first flat 50k, finished slow as molasses but uninjured, and was hooked.<br><br> Slowing down, eating regularly, trying out new routes, workouts, new races... it was like a whole new sport, fun and exciting, and I no longer compared 40 year old me with 24 year old me! <br><br>Even if people can't run 1 mile straight, many ultra runners use a run/ walk method. The slower pace opens up all new, amazing distances! The atmosphere is incredible, the people are encouraging and helpful, and the food is yummy! 😂 Don't let your past limit your future, ultras make life so much more fun!

Ran my first ultra last March. It was a 55k with a lot of elevation gain. I got lost on the course and added close to another 5k getting back on course. Also mismanaged hydration and spent the last third of the course fighting through severe leg cramps. It was miserable and I finished over the time cap by 20 minutes. I was devastated…but I’m going back for redemption next month. <br><br>Strength training cannot be overstated! I used to compete in CrossFit , but let a lot of barbell work go when I started running more. I do squats and front/reverse weighted lunges to hammer my quads and hamstrings pretty much everyday now…plus mobility work. Hoping for better results this time around.

Watching this. I'm already a strong hiker and routinely go 20-30 miles in class 3+ terrain, but running is something that I can't do!

You've got a gift for speaking clearly and communicating your thoughts efficiently. I was struck by the fact you could record this video while being out on a run (power hike? har har) and without reading from a script. Subscribed!

Thank you. I was always interested in transitioning into long distance trails. Cape Breton has a good few routes. <br>Your personality is quite endearing. A lot of the long distance people have that.<br>Thanks!
