I am almost 85 and I learned to cook by watching my Nan. I cooked my first meal, a steak and kidney pie with decorated top unaided at the age of 14. I have had three wives who couldn't cook, thank goodness I learned from my nan.

I was born in 1955 and my Grandma looked after me from the day I was born. I remember all of these things she did. R.I.P. Grandma.✝🙏♥

I am 68 years old and use many of these lost secrets, they have been passed down through my mother and grandparents, and they work. Saving me money and time.

I’m nearly 80 years old, all these ‘secrets’ were taught in school domestic science classes. I don’t have daughters but I do have a son and nephew who have both benefited from old fashioned baking and cooking. T am 64 and still use Suet as my mother and grandmother did. I use it mixed with self raising flour to make fluffy dumplings with a stew.

Mums cakes and pastry was always the best, she was always baking or cooking something, thanks for the reminder to do these things by hand instead of machine ❤ convenience has changed so much over the years.

No you don''t take a cake out to tap the bottom you do thatvwith bread. Cake is far too soft to make a hollow sound. The test for cake is to gently press the top of the cake. If it springs back it is done. If it makes a dent put it back - quickly or else it will sink
