  I remember using coats to help keep us warm on winter nights. The ice was on the inside of the windows. So glad our children never had to experience that

  I am in the fortunate position now of being able to afford pretty much whatever I want, but I still use many of these &nbsp; tricks today, partly because I am a proud Yorkshire woman and we don&apos;t waste money in Yorkshire (!), and partly because I learned how to do these things from my late mother, who learned them from her mother, so it&apos;s a way of honouring them and what they gave me.

  As a child growing up in the 60s with parents who experienced the war, all of them were routine in our house and nothing wasted. The only one which was never know was red wine, I don’t think I knew it existed. &nbsp;The item missing from my experience was contentment with your lot. &nbsp;We didn’t have much money but we were happy with the simple life we had and didn’t covet the next big purchase. &nbsp;It makes me raise an eyebrow when we are told to save the environment. There was hardly anything in our dustbin each week.

  Hello Nan Margaret. I was born in London and was taught a lot of these things. &nbsp;I’ve gone back to bi carb, vinegar and bar soap. It was not just about the cost but the wasteful packaging that brought me back to old fashion methods. My Mum thinks I’m mad but I know my Nana would be proud.

  I grew up in Greenland…so none of this applied to the Polar Eskimo ( the rest of the world frowns on the word Eskimo but it’s the work we use). There are loads of similarities…every bit of a whale is used and every bit of a minnow is used. Items are treated well, respected and passed down. I enjoyed this film very much, thank you.

  Pride was so important &nbsp;.. my Nan, my Mum didn&apos;t have a lot but their homes were spotless ... <br>Bless you, the young Mums these days would be shocked!!! 😊

  I&apos;m 66 and my gran had a very sparse home, she was a farmers wife up at day break till she fell in to bed that night. Mondays was wash day and bedrooms had a good clean, Tuesdays Ironing and cold room sorted out, Wednesdays market day either eggs, butter and cheese home made to sell at market or traded for other goods. Thursdays sitting room good cleaning as other farmers wives came round that afternoon for a cup of tea and a chat. Fridays were Kitchen cleaning day and Saturday morning were Baking day, Bread, cakes, Jams and pastries, Sundays Church in the morning and then Sunday lunch. Plus cows being milked, chickens fed , lunches being made and taken out to the workers cold tea and door step sandwiches plus many other jobs she was only 4ft tall but to me she was bigger then anything in my world

  Oh my goodness. That was a walk down Memory Lane. My mother did at least half of those things. from turning the sheets to saving scraps of soap. I guess there was also a lot of WWII mentality when you couldn&apos;t get things, so you valued what you had. Nowadays, with automatic washing machines, vacuum cleaners and supermarkets, most people would have no idea how to manage without modern life.

  I use vinegar in my wash all the time &nbsp;and still have my grans button tin which I spent hours playing with as a child &nbsp;she also taught me how to make rag rugs backed with hessian and knitted my jumpers for school &nbsp; We also had the dripping bowl and I loved to have it on toast &nbsp;😋 &nbsp;I also have a general store cupboard which was another thing she taught me ❤
