In the book it says that Rocky was at Tau Ceti before Grace was even born. He had been there for 46 years alone. So you could imagine why he was so excited to finally meet another living thing.

The part that really got me crying was realizing that when Grace was a young boy looking up at the stars Rocky was already there with no one to watch him sleep.

Dr. Grace saved the Eridian Kids at the end, and he also saved his children students back on earth. It makes me emotional when I think about it.

Figured out part of the way through the film that the ship is called the Hail Mary and the man living on it is named Grace. Thus, “Hail Mary, full of Grace”

Grace was a scientist, and Rocky was an engineer. They had no chance of completing the mission separately, but they were able to do it together.

During the first encounter Rocky placed diffrent xenon plates to deduce which ones Grce could view him through. So the subsequent time that wall was made of the transparent one. Very cool way to show Rockies intelligence!

Fun Fact: The robot performance was accomplished through both voice acting and puppetry, with James Ortiz accomplishing both tasks. It has been announced that Ortiz is eligible for Best Supporting Actor Oscar consideration for this film thanks to the puppetry aspect. It would be SO COOL if he gets nominated for it.
