So what you're saying is that portals are wayyy better than teleportation.

Another way to fix it is to only be able to teleport into "empty" space. If something solid is in the spot you have memorised, you can't teleport to the spot.

Goku can sense the energy of living organisms and combines it with his teleportation to land exactly where he needs to land.

It’s why can do it without visualizing the location directly.

Nightcrawler is technically a portal teleport, it's just done at speedster speed. You can see where you're going by looking before you step out. That's it. Before you rematerialize you're looking at whatever plane you need to reappear.

>It's magic I don't gotta explain shit.jpg

He uses the Minecraft method; he blips into the Nether, where he travels 8x faster than over world travel, then portals back out. Actual canon.

I mean.. I know it's just engagement bait but ya got me.

Teleportation has those faults if you ignore the in universe explanations sure.

Jumper - He doesn't need to have physically gone somewhere first. He just needs to be able to visualise the place clearly. Which is why he has so many postcards/photos in his apartment.

Dragonball - Goku teleports to people by using their energy signature as a lighthouse.

Dr strange portals - according to the Spiderman movies, can be used to visual a location or randomly pop up next to a person. Dr Strange is proficient enough with his portals that he could close/move the portal before the wrong person came through.

Using the same logic as if I jump on a moving train I will fly backwards. It's like saying flight would be ridiculous because we're not aerodynamic but if you could fly it doesn't matter

There is the way tabletop games have been doing teleportation. If something is in the way then you will be teleported to the closest safe place to the destination instead of the teleporter's body being stuck in a person or the environment. Though can be annoying it is the Magic built in safety feature.

Magic based teleportation powers such as that found in characters derived from DND often have safety measures built into the spell itself....though those are really more "Safety Measures" as they can result in a random different "safe" location chosen like 500ft above the place you were going to teleport to...

All that only matters when teleporting out of line of sight. If you restrict it to line of sight, you solve basically every problem. If you can see the spot you're trying to go to, you don't need super human levels of precision. Skill fills the rest. If you hone your situational awareness, you could extend this to other senses such as hearing to track moving things like people you want to beat the shnazz out of. Also, I'm pretty sure this is how Nightcrawler's power works in the first place.

Long range is the issue. However you can solve this by teleporting into the sky where you can not only see it is clear precision matters even less until you want to go down, which again can be solve with skill.

So long as you have line of sight on the destination, most of the issues with teleporting and rest can be fixed by getting good. Long range can be achieved by teleporting through the sky and then back to above the ground to land in a three point superhero landing because every superhero can survive that. Or use magic and the magic ether solves or bypasses the you can't see the destination issue.

There are more problems not mentioned:
1 - Air. Even if you manage not to teleport into solid stuff, there is air everywhere. And now, you got air into your body, hopefully clean air, but it could be dust, bacteria, etc.
Fix: You swap whatever is in the destination with your body. So if you teleport underwater, a mass of water with your shape appears in your original position.
2 - Inertia. If you teleport from a moving train, do you keep your speed? You want to keep your speed because the Earth is translating around the Sun, but the Earth is also rotating, so tangential speed changes with latitude, and direction changes with longitude.
3 - Clothes. Do clothes teleport with you, or do you teleport naked? Where is the limit? If you are touching something, it teleports with you? If you're in a car, do you teleport with it? What about the ground?

I imagine teleporters also have some kind of spatial awareness that borders on long-range sonar of some kind. They can just feel their surroundings and don't need to worry about foilables.
