  The kids “lack foundational skills that school requires”? No, they lack the skills that society requires. It goes beyond school.

  A 30 year teacher and retired military here. I was once given a disciplinary write up that I refused to sign. The principal didn't know what to do as he had never been told no by a staff. The union refused to represent me. This needs to happen more.

  It’s because the whole world is Bassackward.  Kids rule over their parents and they rule over their teachers.

  When the government got their hands into schools in the late 70's,  schools have gone down hill.

  Agree. As a NYC public school teacher I see that long-term, veteran teachers are not valued or desired by the system. The new model is to maintain a constant flow of  younger, cheaper teachers who only stay max 5 years.

  Home-schooling is becoming very popular with functional families, esp ones where either the mother or father is a teacher.

  As a teacher with 33 years experience, I think your perspective is unique yet completely true. I retired from public education in 2025 because of burnout. I now teach in a Christian school in a much healthier environment.

  I have been saying this since I first started teaching in 1986. I retired in 2016- as long as people keep showing up to teach there is no reason to change anything. Still happening, just getting way worse.

  I taught for 10 years, mostly overseas in Asia. I only lasted about three years in America before I had to quit because my mental health was suffering. <br><br>Kids and their behavior was only a small fraction of my problems. Almost all of my issues were the system. The expectations, the responsibility, the lack of consideration from administrators, and absolute no sick leave when my yet undiagnosed autoimmune compromised self kept getting sick.<br><br>The fact that my friend as a graphic designer had unlimited sick leave and I had three days was absolutely disgusting. I also got paid starvation wages. It was nightmarish and I will never go back. <br><br>I love kids but I refuse to have anything to do with being a teacher ever again.

  I seen faculty turnover in the double digits, and that leaves schools operating on the brink of failure. &nbsp;The “Students” know this and take full advantage.
