  Thank you so much for featuring my reel. I especially appreciated that you named emotional labor. So much of my work centers around helping teachers first notice what’s happening and then name it, because once we have language for our experience, we stop blaming ourselves. Thank you for helping move that conversation forward.

  As a former social worker, it gets worse and worse with time. I had teens under my caseload who would say how they wanted to kill someone just to get away with it and I wasn't allowed to do anything about it. Bring them to a psychiatric facility? They are designated in sound mind. Call the cops? They don't pry past them not speaking. It's dangerous and no one will do anything until someone is actually dead. Most kids today are fine, but the amount that are out of control is growing. Parents won't listen to any directions given and then will ask why their kid isn't changed. It's so bad

  Teachers need to begin pressing charges. It’s ridiculous the amount of leeway these kids get which is why they expect to have no consequences

  These teachers are all very young (under 40?) When they were in school, education was already falling apart. So the teachers today are themselves a product of that decline. Today's students are emotionally more difficult, but today's teachers are also emotionally less able to cope. I don't blame them for quitting.

  I used to work as a teaching assistant. One of my placements had me working in a school&apos;s support unit for children with &apos;issues&apos;. These were kids from abusive families, alcoholic parents etc. The unit was run by specialist teachers, trained for such things. During that time, I was kicked, punched, bitten, chairs thrown at me, staples fired at me, struck with a ruler and various other incidents that most teachers never have to deal with. The normal classrooms had well-behaved kids and it was a pleasure to work with them.<br>I left that job in 2015. What I&apos;m now hearing about the things going on in mainstream classrooms today actually sounds worse than what I was subjected to in the support unit.

  I was a high school teacher for a little over a decade and one of the things that shocked me the most (and finally pushed me to quit) was just how sinister and nihilistic the students AND parents were becoming. For instance, I witnessed students conspiring to get a math teacher fired simply because she was upholding the standards of the course and not giving in to the demands of giving every student an &apos;A.&apos; They were trying to torture this teacher psychologically and thought it was funny when the teacher finally quit. The parents were beginning to bully teachers in their little Facebook group -- one parent going so far as to doxx a teacher/coach for not putting his son as a starter on the basketball team. Our weak and feckless administrators were so afraid of being sued that they would just bend to the will of parents and students all the time. The inmates were actually running the asylum. The teachers, who were all passionate and very highly qualified, were being treated like worthless people who were simply there to babysit and make sure every kid passed.<br><br>The result? Students got pushed through the system being illiterate, innumerate, unable to think critically, and unable to regulate their emotions...all while being entitled and feeling like they deserved everything for doing absolutely nothing. For me, all of it became truly dangerous. I would walk into work every day with my stomach in knots. My mental and physical health declined each year. Finally, I just had give up on the dream. I did not sign up to be a teacher for this chaos and foolery. Furthermore, I did not want to continue working in a system that was actively harming students. Things are so much worse than people realize. Truly. Our society does not stand a chance unless something drastic happens.

  School starts in three weeks. Im entering my third year. I hate it so much. I&apos;m planning my escape now. I hope this is my last year teaching.
