  I remember working as a custodian for the elementary school and high school, and let me say, I was beyond in shock to see firsthand how these students act, no matter the grade. It was traumatizing enough that I am choosing to homeschool my son to protect him from other students. Parents are NOT parenting anymore. I had a student slam a classroom door shut so hard glass shattered all over the floor. The principal was pissed, but he firmly talked to the student about his behavior so professionally, like I would with my own son. The high school, however, was insane. These high school boys were AWFUL. They would tear off the doors, soap dispensers, toilet paper dispensers, break faucets, etc.; they did not care at all. Handicap bathroom? A female student reported it. I was on the job to clean it, but a male student PEED all over the paper towels high on the wall, the toilet paper, the walls, the dispenser, the toilet, the sink, EVERYWHERE. I was livid to know a student could do something so horrendous and childish. I've been considering getting my teachers' education and still will, but I thankfully have the option to be a stay-at-home mom and homeschool, so my education will be going towards how to teach my child and other students in my own private practice, but my biggest fear is children teaching my child that this behavior is okay and being lazy and thinking it's cool to not learn. I have siblings of my own who are still in school. I have a sister who dropped out in the 8th-9th grade; she is impossible to work with and awful to anyone who wants to help her. My mom has tried to help her. We had a social worker try to help her, and CPS and social workers are a joke; they don't have the resources to really help these kids nor send them to juvie. There is no accountability for these kids at all or real-life lessons, and once they reach adulthood, they will face worse because they weren't taught any better. My sister would have been a senior this year, and all I can do is shake my head because she's ruining her own life. Even my own brothers in high school and nephews are incredibly rude and disrespectful at times. I hate thinking of my mother failing as a mother, but I can see how much she's given up on us kids, and my own sisters are following behind her steps. (My own mother is a dropout too.) My sisters and I are all dropouts. I was the only daughter to have gone back and gotten my education and am now working to go back to school for a career. I was the only one out of my mom and sisters to reach my senior year, 2 credits away from graduating, and I dropped out because it was a new school and I didn't get along with the principal. Had we not moved and I remained in my old school, I would have graduated with my friends and classmates. Looking back growing up, I reflect on how my own mother raised us, and yeah, our dad was in the picture, but he never really bothered to discipline us, neither did our mother. We all did whatever and had no discipline, no punishments, no grounding, etc. Parents are not parenting at all, and I am happy to be the black sheep of my family and choose better for my son and hold him accountable for his actions.

  It’s a shame that thousands of teachers are sounding the alarm, and the general public is either apathetic or aggressively dismissive.

  This is every profession that interacts with the public. The only thing unique about this is it puts a spotlight on how shitty your child is and what a terrible job you did as a parent.

  A system that doesn't punish, rewards bad behaviour. And those who follow the rules depand on authoritys to have their back. Wich they do not. Not in action at least.

  I quit at the end of 2024 school year after only 3 years. The veteran teachers are stuck and they strongly advise to get out while still young enough to pursue another career. Yes, it is a zoo, not a classroom

  I am an employee of my local school district. During orientation, I was flabbergasted when I was informed that I could not under any circumstances say the word, NO….. I slipped up several times to correct a student and I use the forbidden two letter word and was overheard by another adult and they reminded me that I absolutely cannot say, NO to a student. Whoever thought of that rule should have their head examined!!!!!

  I have my degree in teaching and left the profession due to maniacal students!  I don’t care what people say, parents DO NOT raise their children. Children are raising themselves. No pay is worth the headache, the fear of losing one’s life, or living a life lacking integrity, because Administrators don’t support their teachers and teachers are being forced to pass or promote students that haven’t earned it or teaching a test, etc

  A friend of mine quit teaching after almost one year because he was threatened with a knife, and then later stabbed with said knife, by the same student. No one above him did anything to protect him. The student was given detention (which they skipped) for the threat, and then suspended for one day for the actual assault/battery. My friend spent two weeks in hospital. <br><br>This was over a decade ago. I can&apos;t imagine what teachers are going through now, even after watching their testimonial videos.
