In KY, planted 3 varieties last weekend of May, planning on digging them up this weekend. Digging for SP’s is like a Christmas gift, these are a surprise with their shapes and sizes. Beauregard have been great, growing a Japanese purple and Georgia Jet for the first time.

Haven't grown Purple Majesty but I've grown Stoke's Purple for about 5 years and they yield very well.

I grew sweet potatoes for the first time in a very long time. I didn’t remember much about how to grow them, so I watched a lot of YT videos and so many said they got their best harvest by not fertilizing. My harvest wasn't great but I do attribute it mostly to our severe drought along with record heat here in Oklahoma and me not keeping up with watering them. I learned a lot and a vetter harcest next year.

I've heard some other gardeners say that if we prune the sweet potato vines, the plant will put more energy into growing the roots. I wonder if the pests eating on the leaves acted kinda like pruning?? Great video, with lots of good info I will put to good use next yr.

Yours did better than mine did. I was having to water on city water through this extreme drought and it was costing me more than what I would have to pay for them at the store. This past season I bought 2 boxes of really nice sweet potatoes for $20 at a local market. I baked a bunch of them and froze them for later use. I like to use the big ones for pies, muffins and pancakes. I like the small ones for sweet potato fries.

I planted mine July 4 so next week I get to "do a little scratching around" Friday to see if I am ready to harvest the 90 day variety.

I planted my 2 varieties in mid May. Still himming and hawing on when to harvest. The vines have been terrific ground cover, but drowned my herbs, peanuts, and flowers. Central Texas, 8b.
