Man, I always love seeing people's first reaction to that drum break down! He beats those things like they owe him money and they DO pay out!

In an interview, Phil Collins said that he didn't really know what this song was about specifically. He was going through a nasty divorce and some other personal issues at the time. It's mostly just pain, rage, and disillusionment all rolled up into a song. You can hear it in there, too. Even now.

This is one of the many reasons growing up in the '80s was so freaking great

It's practically impossible to sing like that while your body is moving on the drums. He is absolutely exquisite and incomparable.

The audience was waiting the whole time for those drums.

The audience went crazy BEFORE he sat down because they knew what was coming!!😂 His son Nicholas is following in his footsteps as another great drummer. Phil started as a drummer. But he not only drums and sings. He arranges, composes, directs and produces. He did the entire sound track for the Disney animated movie Tarzan. Check it out (with your kids) if you haven't already. 😊

Supposedly Phil returned from a tour and found out his 1rst wife had been having been having an affair and left him. When Phil found out who the guy was he realized he knew him. The song is more for the man who took his wife. "Well if you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand. I've seen your face before my friend, but I don't know if you know who I am."

Phil is a drummer. He was formerly in the band Genesis with Peter Gabriel. This song is about divorce.
