Rashida and Peggy got the answers they were looking for... from LA to NYC, to Dublin, and then Riga.
Imagine finding out that an entire portion of your family tree, people that share your history and DNA... aunts, uncles and cousins... ALL of them...just brutally and maliciously ended like that.
And knowing that because of one ancestor, one young man who decided to start over again somewhere else, twenty or thirty years before the Holocaust... is the only reason you exist.
Thats intense.

Every single person who is alive today is an absolute miracle. Whether it was the Holocaust, the slave trade, the plague, this war or that war, famine, natural disasters, if just one one their ancestors had not survived, they would not have existed in this place and this time. The pity is that so few individuals realize how sacred is their life and the lives of others.

She made such an important point that validates something I have often said. Knowing your family history has such marks of oppression, genocide and and hardship in it, it does I feel like a miracle you exist. This doesn't make descendants victims. It makes us victors. It makes those who survived the horror as VICTORS. Yes, the past happened. But take a humble gratitude, and resolve to make a good life. One that seeks to improve, whereby your efforts will not permit such atrocity (or anything like it) to occur again. Remember them with HONOR.

My grandmother on my mother side left Russia for New York in 1907. My grandfather was here already but Lost his sisters to the Nazis In the holocaust. I feel as lucky as Rashida Jones

Man, she sure said it: slavery on one side, the Holocaust on the other. She really is lucky to be here! And no doubt many, many others are as well. My family all emigrated from Europe (2 generations removed at most.) Surviving voyages wasn't guaranteed. Once here, the language barriers & ethnic biases met them at disembarkation. All of us, no matter our roots, will always owe so much to the courage of those who came before. And to a lot of luck!

Can't believe these two are both gone now. I grew up with Peggy from Mod Squad. RIP Peggy and Quincy.

The fact she was able to go so far back in her families history was absolutely incredible. I hope I can do that someday.

Rashida looks so much like her beautiful grandmother it’s amazing. I am sadden for her and her mother’s family that suffered unspeakable atrocities. But I am blessed to hear she knows that she is a miracle.

Sadly, an all too common history. My ancestors lived in the village of Belogorodka in what was then also a part of the Russian Empire and is now part of Ukraine. My grandparents, as children in the early 1900's, migrated to the US. In 1941, the Nazi's came to the village and killed all the remaining Jews exactly as happened to Rashida's family. Rashida's story struck very close to home for me.

Like most people I would bet they didn't know their were Jews in Ireland. I'm partly of Irish decent and had never heard this.
I grew up knowing about the Holocaust. As a young teen I couldn't understand man's inhumanity to man. Still can't. There were no deniers that I knew of back then.
Considering the two sides of Rashida's family... Her existence is truly a miracle. She seems like such a sweet person.
