In my ancestor's immediate family there were five brothers of the six sons who went to sea as Captains in the 19th Century.  Of the five, three died at sea with one dying in Antarctic waters with his own son and a nephew and two others who were killed during hurricanes.  My ancestor and an older brother were the lucky ones who came home from their final voyage.

I really don't know who this young lady is, but I love to watch the family stories that are uncovered in this program regardless of whether I know them or not. It's lovely to hear the stories people like John and Caroline as well as Joseph, to learn about their triumphs and their struggles. It is the human story. I think it's wonderful that this young lady Cheryl knows them now and has the opportunity to tell her parents and the rest of her family.

The battlefield historian pointed out the key to many of these stories -- ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances. Especially in the World Wars, you hand everyday Joes and Janes tossed into situations of stress and horror. Some found the strength to endure it, some broke under it, and a few rose above themselves and became heroes. Cheryl's Army ancestor was one who endured, and paid the price later.

Wonderful Ancestry! So happy she has so many good things she learned about them. Poor John and Caroline.  They're happily together again 😊❤

Yup tears for people that died over 100 years before I was even thought of, for people that I’m not related to. But that had a true love.

I always wonder what the ancestors would think if they knew their great-great-etc grandchildren were looking for them...

I really enjoyed this one. I've been watching them all. Cheryl is so beautiful inside and out. She is a treasure to watch and listen to. Her family history was sad yet so interesting to watch. Thank you for this series. I'm learning so much.
