  Free houses in Japan does not automatically include a long-term visa; owning property, even for free, does not grant the right to live in Japan permanently. To live in Japan long-term, you will need a separate long-term visa such as a work, spouse, or business manager visa. Some &quot;free&quot; homes may have conditions requiring you to commit to living in the area, but this is still tied to the visa you obtain. There goes the dream of Japan as a second home.

  Biggest problem is if you&apos;re not a citizen of Japan and you&apos;re on a Visa you can&apos;t really live there fulltime, I know a few places and their Mayors are trying to find a way around that for people who really want to move to Japan and make it their permanent residence but I&apos;d say that&apos;s the biggest obstacle to start with. Alot of people looking at these places are wanting summer homes or air bnb conversions and that&apos;s not what most of the towns are looking for, they&apos;re trying to get permanent residence back into the communities.

  recently so many foreigners have been buying those akiyas in Japan so now the Japanese government is currently updating all their rules regarding them.....if you&apos;re planning about buying one....I suggest you first do a very thorough research about the most up to date rules ....they can also vary from prefecture to prefecture

  Actual Akiya flipper here. Decent advice in this video but if you are actually interested in doing this you should checkout some people who are more dedicated to flipping Akiya. <br><br>Also I have to call out the google translate thing! Don’t rely on google translate for such important matters!! For example, it translated “transfer” as 引越し. Very very wrong! 引越し is for moving houses, not transfers. There are actually many different terms used for transfers. If you don’t speak Japanese, get a professional translator. It’s not that expensive compared to the money you’ll spend on renovations and a drop in the bucket compared to your profits if you do it right.

  From what I’m seeing from all these YouTubers, the actual houses cost with all the taxes and fees etc range between $20,000-$40,000, still cheap if you can get a good one and actually want to move there.

  With all of these costs they&apos;re still extremely cheap compared to a home in the west. The main issue is they&apos;re all in dying towns
