Well, to be honest Japan is not a very open country. But I personally think that is absolutely why Japan is Japan.

I live in Japan on a spouse visa, which pretty much gave me all the freedom I needed to try out different career paths. So far, I have come to the conclusion that working for a foreign company while living in Japan will take off A LOT of the stress that many foreigners are facing here. I work as a freelancing consultant for a Danish company, work Danish hours, get Danish salary and Danish holidays, so I am completely detached from the toxic work environment here while getting enough salary to provide for my family. My wife has been working for a Japanese company for over 10 years, and is in the process of seeking a job in an international company. The final straw for her was when she was denied a promotion because she focused too much on coding instead of "company values"... in a f*cking CODE interview!

I just left Japan yesterday after living there for 4 yrs. Japan holds a deep place in my heart. I spent 7 yrs especially during the pandemic, devoted to learning Japanese and immersing myself in the culture. I'm a music producer, and I’ve always loved Japanese music and their Takumi spirit.I truly wanted to integrate into Japanese society and did a lot of part-time jobs when I was in language school(アパレル コンビニ 本屋),but after entering a music university,I realized that it was almost impossible.Discrimination and exclusion were sadly commonplace. Still, I’m grateful for the many kind and supportive people I met along the way.

I am Japanese. Recently, partly due to the global situation, I feel that Japan has become stricter about accepting foreign residents. I feel sorry for those who have no choice but to return to their home countries, but in Japan, speaking Japanese alone does not necessarily make it easy to find a job. Even we Japanese feel that way. Of course, the situation may be different in fields with severe labor shortages.<br><br>In any country, the longer you live there, the more you get used to daily life, and the sense of novelty or specialness tends to fade. At such times, it might be good to step away for a while.<br><br>Thank you for choosing to come to Japan.

Osaka people are more friendly and welcoming to foreigners than Kanto region in my opinion

This was very informative. As someone who lived in Japan for 8+ years, I could totally relate to many of the interviewee’s comments. I really feel sad for the Greek guy as he’s made great strides to fit in and would definitely be an asset to Japan but yet they keep trying to push him out at every turn. It’s also so sad for Japan’s side that they want to push out a foreigner who obviously loves Japan and would be good for Japan. I wish him the best.

The chinese girl has an amazing mentality, totally accurate, mindful, truthful, I'm so in hand with what she said and how she pointed the things out. I really liked her, great person. 😊

I’ve been living in Japan for 20 years. As an expat, I recommend that every foreigner try to learn as much Japanese as possible. If you’re fluent in both Japanese and English, there are tons of job opportunities available. It’s tough, but definitely doable!
