  About the last use of the guillotine... The French idndn't ban the guillotine itself, they just banned the death penalty. If the death penalty ever got voted back into law, I'm sure the guillotine would make a comeback there

  Salt was vital, you needed it to preserve a lot of the food you prepare. There were no fridges and seven kg of salt for an entire family was average.

  The Germans were also great lovers of the guillotine. At the time of its invention, the guillotine was seen as more humane and egalitarian. It made executions more humane by avoiding the prolonged suffering caused by earlier methods such as hanging, the wheel, or manual beheading. It was also viewed as egalitarian because it applied the same penalty to all social classes, unlike the Ancien Régime system where nobles benefited from a more “dignified” execution while commoners were subjected to crueler torments.
