  I was a pilot with A Company 227 ASB in the 1st Cav. From November 1967 to November 1968 my Company had 43 Hueys destroyed and several dozen that were shot up so bad they had to be replaced with new aircraft. I lost track of how many crewmembers were wounded. Our normal count was 22 aircraft, and it was common for 18 or 19 to be ready to fly every day. Our maintenance was the absolute best. Every new guy who came into our unit was right out of school except the three company commanders. Most were under 20 including the pilots. I turned 21 a month before I came home. Everybody in the Cav said they were in the best unit in Vietnam. We were.

  Helicopter pilots in Vietnam racked up more flight hours in one month than most private pilots log in years! These pilots would be in their seats 12-14 hours a day landing only to rearm and a hot refuel.

  Excellent exposition of what organizationally made the Cav different, excellent film material.  From the door gunner segment, it looks like 25th Inf had an air element of their own, I didn't know.

  The relief of Khe Sanh operation<br> &nbsp; &nbsp;was widely considered nothing<br> &nbsp; &nbsp;but a route march<br> &nbsp; &nbsp;with no resistance from PAVN units.<br>PAVN units fled in abject terror<br> &nbsp; &nbsp;from the intense, accurate air &amp; artillery.<br>PAVN units had retreated<br> &nbsp; &nbsp;deep into Cambodia<br> &nbsp; &nbsp;by the time the CAV got there.<br>Everyone knew monsoon&apos;s end <br> &nbsp; &nbsp;meant air could fly, practically.<br>The Airmobile CAV was so ground breaking<br> &nbsp; &nbsp;it now exists as an armoured unit.

  My family member LT Donald Wood was in 1st battalion 327th Infantry 101 Airborne aka Tiger force, before he got transferred. He said they had free Roam did evil things (ear necklaces) as long as they got a body count. Why don&apos;t you do a episode on the depravity of that until &amp; men in it, or how our government cover it up?
