  My grandfather was at St Valerie and spent 5 years in East Prussia, starvation diet and forced labour! He was a Cameronian rifleman from the East end of Glasgow!

  They were not "forgotten." They were fighting the rearguard actions that made it possible to evacuate the others. To say they were "left behind" is an insult to their bravery. Had they been able to manage more evacuations, they would have done.

  My father was in the Black Watch wounded at St valery Rommel saved his life by ordering the German medics to treat all the wounded the same.My father spent spent the rest of the war in a prison camp in Poland (Pozon)doing forced labour then was forcced to march back to Germany as the Russians were advancing he and some of his friends survived the war.

  There are may things missed or wrong. The 51 st were also recruited from the Islands. The Germans took a petty revenge on them by marching them to incarnation in Germany &nbsp;and Poland this was payback for the fear the 51st had caused the Germans in WW1, there use of the bayonet and there tenacity. The reformed 51st had a singular honour bestowed on them in Tunis<br> When the 51st Highland Division marched at past Winston Churchill and General Allan Brooke Commander In Chief General Staff in Tunis in February 1943 General Allan Brooke was to say: It was quite the most impressive sights I have ever seen. The whole Division was most beautifully turned out, and might have been in barracks for the last three months instead of marching 1200 miles and fought many battles during the same period. As I stood alongside Winston watching the Division march past with the wild music of the pipes in my ears, I felt a lump rise in my throat and a tear run down my face. I looked at Winston and saw several tears on his face. For the first time I was beginning to live through the thrill of these first success that were now rendering ultimate victory possible.
