The Five Main Causes of Aging

Nutrient Depletion: Modern food is less nutritious than in the past, often due to the consumption of ultra-processed products
.
Chronic Inflammation: Often worsened by excessive sugar consumption, which causes insulin spikes
.
Oxidation or Free Radicals: A biological wear-and-tear process that can be countered with antioxidants
.
Collagen Degradation: Collagen fibers lose structure over time, a process accelerated by the loss of estrogen during menopause and by glycation
.
Cellular Waste Buildup: The body needs internal "cleaning" processes like autophagy to remove damaged components
.
The 2-Minute Skincare Routine
This routine focuses on the essentials to look "5 years younger in 2 minutes"
.
Morning (3 Steps):
Cleanse: Use a cleanser appropriate for your skin type (foaming for oily, milky/gentle for dry/sensitive)
.
Antioxidant Serum (Vitamin C): Neutralizes free radicals and acts as a cofactor for collagen production
.
Sunscreen: The most important step for preventing skin cancer and UV-induced aging
.
Night (2 Steps):
Cleanse: The most important wash of the day. If wearing makeup, use a double cleanse (cleansing oil/micellar water followed by a gentle cleanser)
.
Retinol Moisturizer: Helps exfoliate, thicken the deeper layers of the skin, and fade sunspots
.
Weekly Maintenance: Exfoliate once or twice a week to remove dead skin cells and stimulate turnover
.
How Sugar and Diet Affect Collagen
Glycation and AGEs: Sugar molecules bind to collagen fibers, creating Advanced Glycation End products (AGEs) that make collagen deformed and brittle
.
Inflammation: High-glycemic foods cause insulin spikes, leading to chronic inflammation, a major cause of aging
.
Proteins and Vitamin C: Since collagen is a protein, consuming 1 gram of protein per pound of ideal body weight is recommended to provide building blocks
. Vitamin C is an essential cofactor for this synthesis
.
Best Sources of Omega-3 for the Skin
To reduce chronic inflammation, the sources recommend:
Cold-water fish (especially salmon)
.
Nuts and seeds
.
Avocados
.
Intermittent Fasting and Autophagy
Intermittent fasting helps the skin by addressing cellular waste buildup
. Giving the digestive system a 12-hour rest unlocks the body’s regenerative abilities and triggers autophagy, a process of internal cellular cleaning
.
Bakuchiol as a Retinol Alternative
Bakuchiol is a plant-based alternative to retinol from the babchi plant
. It is ideal for sensitive skin because it offers very similar anti-aging effects to retinol but without the irritation, redness, or peeling often associated with Vitamin A derivatives
.
Advantages of Microneedling
Microneedling is considered a high-value treatment for rejuvenation
.
It can cause a 400% increase in collagen
.
It uses controlled trauma to force the skin to heal in a tighter fashion
.
It creates micro-channels that allow growth factor serums or PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) to penetrate deeper
.
Meditation and the Skin
Meditation is described as the best free treatment for the skin
. It helps by reducing stress, which significantly accelerates aging, and by improving sleep quality, which is vital for regeneration
.
How to Identify Oxidized Vitamin C
Check the color of the serum:
Dark brown: Likely oxidized and should be discarded
.
Light yellow/pale brown: Likely still effective and can be used
.
Using opaque packaging is recommended to prevent premature oxidation
.
When to Start Using Sunscreen
While the sources do not specify a childhood age, they emphasize that collagen loss (1% per year) begins in the mid-20s
. Sunscreen is prioritized over collagen supplements for lifetime health because it prevents skin cancer and protects the skin's structure from UV damage

Wish they had discussed the toxic chemicals that are in sunscreens!! They are not all the same.

Elf has an amazing vitamin C that has the vitamin E in it too that you talked about that can be synergistic. It turns a light yellow, but that means it’s good. It’s 15%. I love it. I’m 57 and just started using vitamin C and I can already see a difference within two weeks.

Thank you for this episode. I have been watching countless videos for years mentioning, talking about, how to use, what not to do with Tretinoin. This is the FIRST time I hear that Tretinoin actually prevents skin cancer. How. Why is this not known? Thank you ever so much for mentioning this !!!

For almost 20 years, I’ve been removing my make up with coconut oil. Just a simple container of the Costco brand coconut oil it works miracles! It melts the makeup off like a butter.

To be blunt, if one does not have the time or motivation to take care of our largest organ (our skin), they shouldn't be complaining!
