I got my first rifle when I was 10. A Remington single shot.22lr.  By the time I was 12 I was judged responsible enough to shoot it. On my grandfather’s 600 acre ranch. I could break a match stick at 20 paces with it. I still have it more than 70 years later.

There is nothing more pleasant than an accurate .22, and a warm, dry day at the range!

I remember the good old days when a brick of 500 long rifles cost 12 dollars. We often went to a gravel pit and went through 500 rounds.

They payed 1/2 cent. Not 5 cents. Hell, I'm 60 and I payed 2 cents in the 80's.

Well I'm 83 years old when I was a kid you could buy 500 rounds of 22 shells for $4.50,  I got my first 22 when I was 11 years old when hunting every weekend then when I was 12 my dad gave me a 20-gauge shotgun then when I was in high school most everybody had a pickup had a gun rack in the back with a shotgun or 22 in it because after school we would go dove hunting and my granddad told me the only thing he had was 22 to go deer hunting in the city always brought deer home. He said it was not how big the gun was but where you hit the deer at was the most important thing he said his 22 would drop a deer like mad

Just proves it’s not what you hit ‘em with, it’s where you hit’em.

When I was 10 years old, a far uncle handed to my mother a J. Stevens, Little Scout, .22 LR, single shot, 18 &quot; barrel, ....but only obliged to give it over to me when I was 12. There was a pest of parrots eating all our fruit in great grandfathers garden. I never considered myself as a crack shot, but every round had to count. If I brought back 20 pairs of legs...I would be compensated with another box of 50 rounds. All cartridges standard Velocity, solid round nose.I had to have a lot of patience, every shot fired, the remaining parrots didn&apos;t come back quickly. Let&apos;s be honest, 50 yards was VERY far away for me, My elder cousin was a much better shot than me, but he loved my little Stevens... He NEVER missed a damn thing.<br>I&apos;m from Central Argentina.

My ex-wife&apos;s brother many years ago shot a cow elk with one well placed shot from a 22lr at about 50 yards and it dropped like a ton of bricks.

I remember paying $9.99 for a 1000 round brick of .22LR when I was a kid back in the &apos;70s. Still my favorite weapon of choice for SHTF senario.
