Have a .22LR Savage rifle w/scope. Followed up with a Glock 44. I don't have to worry if I have the right caliber for the right gun, since both are .22s. I just have to worry if I'm loading ball or hollow points, which is less of a concern for the firearm and more concern of what I'm shooting at. Oh, and a (first) gun purchase is never complete without a gun cleaning kit (w/gun oil). I was taught that cleaning a firearm is an integral part of gun safety. Shoot safely, clean safely, and clean (and oil) after each shooting session.

The rifle I go to most often, is a Thompson/Center Contender Carbine. It's scoped and accurate; at my age I need a scope. Strangely, I don't like it much (too ugly) but it works. My second choice is my Marlin 39M. I DO like that rifle and its accuracy and pure class, but peep sights are marginal these days.
