David Niven was the finest gentleman who worked in the film industry, as well as a brave soldier.

According to my mother I fell in love with David Niven age 6 after watching a movie ... At age 11 I read my mum's copy of The Moons Balloon. At age 12 & 1/2 I wanted to read it again so I asked mum, she'd lent it out. So I strolled to the local library ,&'asked a librarian about the book ,to which her shocked response was " You are a child ,this book is pornographic, and has adult situations,I'd require a note signed by one of your parents".. I walked 1 minute to my home, and presided to regale my mum with the librarians comments &' request... Mum wrote the letter with the title, author ,&:the fact I'd read it before... So I again graced the library ,opening the door I could see the librarian she had superiority, and smugness written all over her face... I slammed my mum's letter down ,I smiled nicely ,& with a huff she stomped off to get my copy of the book.... I'm now a great Nana, and I am still in love with David Niven ❤still

When in service as a Dutch luitenant in the artillery in Germany, during the cold war, I read The Moon is a Balloon. I was enchanted by this man before I even saw his movies. Great man.

A true gentleman with old school values that we have sorely lost and a brilliant actor and a commando which says it all 😊

He was a wonderful man who I greatly admired. I remember reading 'The Moon's a Balloon' while flying home as a young teenager, and just cracking up because it was so funny. Apparently the Porter's from London Airport sent a Huge wreath to his funeral. They said he was the best, always treated them well and was a true gentleman (who also gave good tips). He was a brave man and a good man. The USA could do with some real men, like him.
