  The Polar Lights 1:350 scale kit built by a skilled person is absolutely the ultimate. The Tomy die cast is okay, but lacking in some key areas. But, it's not bad for the money. It's going to be satisfying for 90% of the people who own it.

  The old AMT model with the sagging engine cells was the best; they used it in the original "Doomsday Machine." Now they only show the digital remake.

  WOULD BE MORE than fascinating if an ISS crew-member had this model of the iconic 947 ft Starship aboard & released it just outside the station, w/ the REAL Earth as the background ! !

  As a child who was old enough (5 years old) to remember watching the moon landing live in 1969 I had ALL of the Star Trek models, and yes I did glue my own fingers together several times 😂 I had the Enterprise, Galileo shuttlecraft, Romulan bird of prey, Klingon battle cruiser, Communicator, Tricorder, Phaser and Bridge.

  Prebuilt models and figures in general have become quite popular along with good levels of quality. In the seventies, I couldn&apos;t have guessed that such things would be available later! The 1/1000 scale Polar Lights snap-fit Enterprise was one of the first Enterprise models that was more accurate than AMT from the sixties. <br><br>By the time Polar lights released the 1/350 refit Enterprise, the company had started a good run of Star Trek kits. My former modeling forum friends built many of them with great results. One of the guys was building them for sale at reasonable prices. <br><br>You mentioned that these recent prebuilt models come at a high price relative to what the general public expects. Some of the modelers I know would invest many hundreds of dollars or more &nbsp;to achieve premium results! Nevertheless, it was a fun time seeing what one could do according to their skills.

  What I would love is a model mimicking the differences in the recently recovered smaller model. Most especially the flattened out dip on the bottom of the saucer section.

  I did &nbsp;It the old fashioned way…..built around 7 of them, in my prop building business. And built the giant 52 inch DeBoers Hull version three times!. Been building for 50 years!
