Thank you for this video about Andersonville. My great- great grandfather, William Lake, was a prisoner here for about one year. He was one of the lucky ones who survived this hellhole. His health was never the same for the rest of his life. The camp commander, Henry Wirz did his best to eliminate as many Yankees as possible thru not letting a small attachment of union soldiers under guard to ut and chop trees to cook or keep warm in winter. After the war, Wirz was the only<br>Confederate to be tried and hanged for his crimes. The TV movie, Andersonville is a good depiction of the conditions of the POW camp.

Both the North and the South had prisons that were horrendous. Camp Douglas (Chicago), Elmira Prison (New York), and Rock Island Prison (Illinois) were notorious. Union prisoners in the South starved because everyone was starving in the South. There simply was no food. Confederate prisoners in the North were being starved in the midst of relatively plenty in retaliation for the starvation occurring in the South.

Good video! Informative! I heard “Amazing Grace “ playing! The only thing amazing was the awful cruelty doled out to the prisoners! How can people treat their fellow man in that way!
